U18s As per last year there is a lot of paper work to complete: 1. Membership – you have to be a paid up member (£10 for season 2010/11) in order to register you as a Orkney RFC player with the SRU; 2. Parental Consent – medical consent valid throughout the season; 3. Photo Consent – under Child protection laws we have to gain consent to publish any photos of the team in action; 4. U16 in U18 Rugby Ready form – any U16s wishing to train with U18s will have to complete the online Rugby Ready course, undergo a physical assessment and complete this application form for submission to the SRU. (There is a physical assessment organised for Tuesday 7 September, 6:30pm for any U16s wishing to train with the U18s this season – their forms have to be submitted to the SRU by 30 August, so get these to me asap.) 5. U18 in Senior Rugby Ready form – all U18s should complete this form which will allow involvement in senior training and/or internal/seconds fixtures – this will involve completion of the online Rugby Ready course. Rather than drag this paper trail on until the end of the season I would appreciate if all this can be done before our first fixture. The top 3 forms can be downloaded from this website, with the Rugby Ready stuff available from the SRU website. There is an issue with the online Rugby Ready course for which I am waiting a clarification from the SRU. With only a week before the first fixture a good turnout would be appreciated on both Tuesday and Thursday. Training will run from 6pm sharp to 7:30pm at the Rugby Club until further notice. If you have any questions, or cannot make training for any reason, you should contact Stoff (07739789904) or me (07881505765).

The 2010/11 Season is almost underway. Following from last Tuesdays successful meeting Stoff and I have agreed to continue as the U18s coaches’ for the forthcoming season. We have entered the Caledonia league again this season but it is a slightly different format with the Midlands and the North being split geographically, with the North being further split into two regional sections. Orkney are drawn in the North West League against Caithness, Ross Sutherland, Highland, Moray and Gordonstoun. The League is to be played on a home and away basis with the top two sides playing off against the other North section before taking on the Midlands for Caley glory! The known U18 fixtures are as follows: 28-Aug-10 Ross Sutherland (A) 04-Sep-10 Gourdonstoun (H) 11-Sep-10 Caithness (H) 18-Sep-10 Moray (A) 25-Sep-10 Highland (A) 02-Oct-10 Ross Sutherland (H) 09-Oct-10 16-Oct-10 23-Oct-10 30-Oct-10 Gordonstoun (A) 06-Nov-10 Highland (H) 13-Nov-10 Moray (H) 20-Nov-10 27-Nov-10 04-Dec-10 Caithness (A) Obviously results in this part of the season will dictate fixtures later on; as you can see a lot of games and a lot of commitment expected of the U18 squad to make themselves available for away trips, home matches and training.

U16 and U18s I have enquired with the SRU about completion of the IRB Rugby Ready course for this season as there is a problem with it. Hopefully I can provide an answer soon. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Dear S1/2 Player/Parent – Guardian Welcome to the new season 2010 – 2011. Please see the information below regarding the season ahead. Training will take place every Wednesday, 2:30pm – 4pm, beginning on the 25th August at KGS playing fields. For Stromness pupils training will be on Friday afternoons 2:15 – 3:15pm, the start date is still to be confirmed and players will be notified ASAP. S1/2 training and home games will take place at KGS on Saturday mornings from 10am – 11:40am. Start Date 28th August at KGS. It is forecast that the players will play approximately seven matches on the Scottish mainland and have a fixture list of matches throughout the season in Orkney featuring both visiting teams and internal competitions. Training will be varied working on key areas such as fitness, ball skills, kicking and catching, tackling technique, contact area, support play and game sense. Depending on participation numbers the S1/2 players may have to train and play together as last season. This will also depend on coaching resources available. Anyone wishing to assist with coaching, food preparation etc for games should contact myself or Sara Croy. It is intended that the players will receive the opportunity to have a tour at the end of the season to play in the Scottish Borders with another game planned going south or coming back north. For this to happen fundraising will need to take place throughout the season and a Tour Committee will need to be formed by the parents. More information will be given in the near future. 1. Players should note that correct clothing should be worn to all sessions including warm wet weather gear. Gum shields and rugby boots are also a requirement along with Black shorts and Red socks for matches. 2. A training register shall be kept for every session and priority for matches will be given to players who are showing good commitment to their training. 3. Players are to show a positive attitude towards their learning and are reminded that coaches are not their to discipline them. Players who disrupt sessions or are deemed to be causing risk to others will be asked to leave that particular session. Any queries or questions please get in touch.

Friday 24th September 2010 Schools Tag Festival Anyone who can assist with the above Festival should contact me ASAP. The event in April was a huge success but as previously mentioned, this was down to resources of quality volunteers available. The format will be very similiar to the April Festival and again based at the Pickaquoy with only the number of teams being the probable variable. Pitch Managers Referees Runners Registration officers First Aiders General helpers Please e-mail or phone so I can start to pull a register of helpers together. U18 meeting last night Thanks to everyone that made the effort turn up really good numbers. As agreed last night training will start tomorrow night at 6PM and all are welcome so spread the word as we do have a game next weekend!! As was mentioned last night there are several games scheduled to be played over the next few weeks so we need everyone to make themselves available. Can everyone make a big effort to get their 'Rugby Ready' forms completed and their memberships paid this has to be done before next weekend. If you are on the SRU website doing the 'Rugby Ready' you should be able to find the forms to allow U18's to play senior and U16's to play U18 if not I'll print of some and take them along tomorrow night.
