Stirling University 102, Orkney 0
The game was always going to be a tough fixture for Orkney, Stirling University's pitch is renowned for being a huge field with plenty of space for the youthful homeside to run. With unavailability’s enmass and a few injuries to boot the desperately poor turnout at training is not helping our league chances at all, due mostly to that game of the round ball where players roll on the floor for no reason! My hat goes off to Erlands frantic phoning around on Friday morning to find players, which he succeeded thankfully. Andrew Cromarty and Marcus Cordoch joined us in Stirling, thanks guys!
Now to the game! Well it started at 1pm and finished at 2.25. Orkney scored 1 try (Don Tualasea) converted (Roger Hall) and Stirling University scored 1 each! All credit goes to Stirling for their flowing backs and committed forwards, they played every ball with the aggression that Orkney couldn't seem to muster, mistakes were made but not often enough for orkney to benefit. There were a few phases of play by the Orkney forwards that gave credit to their training but all too often broke down due to lack of communication. The backs didn't get too much ball but when they did it was mostly on the back foot and yards were hard to come by.
Points of interest in the game included some very good tackling and driving by Don Tualasea, good covering of ground by Steven Paterson in defence. Some good support in attack by Kristian (chabal) Cooper, excellent footwork and breaks by both Raymond Moodie and Trevor Spence, hopefully the gaping cut over Rogers eye will only add to his rugged good looks.
All in all it seems that Orkney need to go back to the drawing board, getting players young and old involved in the game, as Kitchener said "your club needs you"
Score 102 – 7
