The Isles were, in the end, well beaten by a good Westray side. However the scoreline flatters the winning side as the isles were more than amatch for them in many areas. The Isles certainly dominated field position and possession for long periods in the game and were unfortunate not to score on several occasions.
The isles had no answer for the Westray speed men however and were unable to catch them when they broke through. The westray side showed great defensive skills with good communication throughout the match and without thier teamwork would surely have conceded more trys. An unfortunate injury to the Isles up and coming scrum half - Fraser Leslie saw him leave the field just on half time with a badly torn ear.
Westray were well ahead at half time with trys by Rizy and Luke Rendall. Isles had a solitary penalty from Pansey Jnr.
The 2nd half continued in the same mode with Isles less dominant now and Westray utilizing thier speed to greater affect running out comfortable winners 46 - 3.
Westray man of the match was Rizy with 4 or 5 trys and Isles worthies were both Pansy's the evergreen Fletcher and big Ross Howe, but the man of the match despite playing only one half was Fraser who continues to impress.
The Isles team despite losing most of our games so far remain in bouyant spirits and with an influx of new talented players along with the prospect of some home games, the future looks good.
Our next game is on Dec 10th in Stronsay against the East, both team captains need names in early so that transport and hospitaliy can be arranged.
