Level 1 Coaching Course 18-8-24

John Cairns will be taking a level 1 course for new or novice coaches at ORFC on Sunday the 18th of August, from 10am to 4pm

There is currently a desperate lack of coaches at certain age groups within the club and a real chance that some sections could fold because of it.

The club would like all coaches to complete this course ahead of the new season & will cover the costs for those involved.

Caledonia Saltires U16/U17 - Academy Festivals Roundup 26-27 July 2024

Narrow defeat for the Caledonia Saltires U17 on Friday at Ravenscraig with a score of 21-17 to Glasgow.
Michael Scarth played loose head and tight head prop throughout, Ronan played number 10 and they both contributed well to the sides performance.

Meanwhile on Saturday, the U16 Caledonia Saltires suffered a heavy defeat against a well drilled Edinburgh Knights side.
Owen tackled very well and Balfour cleared out rucks powerfully. 65-17.

Well done lads for all your efforts and to all the coaches for their hard work!

Four Orkney RFC players selected for Caledonia Saltires at the Academy Festivals - 26 & 27 July

Four Orkney U16 & U17 boys have been selected to play for Caledonia Saltires at this weekend’s Academy Festival games in Motherwell & Stirling.

The U17 Caledonia team is playing Glasgow on Friday 26th July at Ravenscraig in Motherwell with a 12.30pm KO.
Michael Scarth and Ronan Hamilton are in the squad and both in the starting 15 with Michael Scarth captaining the side.

The U16 Caledonia Saltires are playing Edinburgh on Saturday 27th July at Stirling County Rugby Club with a 12pm KO.
Owen Spence and Balfour Norquoy are both selected for the squad and in the starting line up.

Well done lads and good luck! It’s great to see all your hard work pay off!

International Tickets 24/25 - Deadline Reminder

Hi folks, this is a reminder for anyone still to pay for Autumn International tickets needs to do so before 1 August,
If you no longer want them, please let Olga Burton know ASAP at [email protected] so they can be reallocated within the club, otherwise they will be automatically returned to the SRU for general sale.

Orkney U16 pair in action for Caledonia Saltires - Sat 20 Jun 2024

Owen Spence and Balfour Norquoy played for Caledonia Saltires U16 yesterday at an Academy Festival held at Stirling County Rugby Club.

Both the lads were on the starting team sheet with Balfour Norquoy at number 4 and Owen Spence number 7.

They both played well and were contributing to good ball carries, tackles and assists in securing a 39-0 win over Borders and West Lothian Whites U16 team.

The lads have been attending weekly training in Dundee RPC over the past weeks.

Dounby Show 2024 - Marshalls Required - Can you help?

BBC Alba appearance results in surprise gift for the Orkney Dragons

A chance viewing of the BBC Alba programme “Thar na Loidhne / Crossing the Line” resulted in a surprise gift of four magnificent hand crafted Maeshowe Dragons for Orkney RFC’s Womens team!

Bridge of Earn man, Richard Patrick had been teaching his son Robin to weld and they made the dragons as test pieces.

Laser cut from steel to the exact outline of the carving on the tomb and hand finished, Richard had intended to mount them on the fence of their house but is now moving home and decided they would no longer be needed.

After seeing the Orkney Dragons host the Stornoway Ladies on TV, he thought, “Where better for them to end up?” and contacted Dragons captain, Emma Staunton, to see if she would like them as a donation to the club.

The offer was very gratefully accepted and Richard was able to hand over the pieces to Emma on a trip to Orkney to deliver a boat.

Huge thanks to Robin & Richard, the Maeshowe Dragons will soon take pride of place in the clubhouse!
