Turriff kicked off, and despite a strong defensive effort from Orkney—with early tackles from Sandra Davey, Nikita Scollie, and Cailynn Williamson, plus turnover ball won by Nikita and Angie Shearer—it was Turriff’s No. 8 Emma Riach who crossed the line first. Isla Jack added the conversion to give the home side an early lead. Orkney made some early changes and switched to uncontested scrums. Play remained intense, with both sides capitalising on penalties and momentum swings.
With some impressive Orkney lineouts with Alanna Smith as jumper it was another ball steal from Nikita Scollie that allowed Angie Shearer a strong run downfield, but with no support, Turriff secured the turnover. Soon after, Aleisha Womack made her own break, but again Turriff regained control and pushed back downfield. This time it was Natalie McDonald who scored, followed by another successful conversion. A dangerous tackle on Aleisha Womack gave Orkney a crucial penalty. The forwards put in several strong rumbling phases, and Cady Denoon powered over the line for Orkney’s first try, converted by Womack. Turriff responded quickly, breaking through the Orkney defence for a try by their No. 12, Danker Mutch. Orkney remained undeterred. After more penalties conceded by Turriff and additional turnovers from Angie Shearer and Nikita Scollie, Cady Denoon again crossed the line—but the ball was knocked on. Turriff capitalised and it was Isla Jack who produced a kick-chase from halfway, beating the defence to score another try for Turriff. A refreshed Orkney side returned to the field, producing a far more competitive second half. Once again, Nikita Scollie secured multiple turnovers, and strong forward pods combined with excellent rucking from Skye Taylor and Sandra Davey created momentum. Their efforts paid off when Nikita Scollie crossed the line for another Orkney try, converted by Aleisha Womack. Turriff, however, remained dangerous. Their No. 14 broke down the wing, but borrowed Orkney player Gwenanna Butler made a superb covering tackle. Unfortunately, Turriff still managed to recycle the ball and score again. Orkney pushed on, taking advantage of Turriff going down to 14 players. Another penalty put them in strong field position, and it was Aleisha Womack who scored the final try of the match and added the conversion. With their league fixtures complete, the Orkney Dragons now await final results elsewhere to determine their league position and Cup placement ahead of the January 2026 fixtures. A big thank you to Northlink Ferries for their continued sponsorship, Gary Nicolson for coaching, and to Netsi Sori, Gwenanna Butler, and Amy Reid for stepping in to play.
