Grangemouth Stagettes 17, Orkney Women RFC 10
Saturday September 30th saw Orkney Women’s RFC travel to take on Grangemouth Stagettes in their first ever Sarah Beaney Cup game. It was a clear and sunny day with good conditions for rugby. Grangemouth opened the scoring with a well worked try. Orkney hit back with a try from captain Jo Inkster after a period of Orkney pressure. The game settled into an even contest with Grangemouth striking twice either side of half time.
On the 60 minute mark Orkney got right back into the game with a try from Paige Archibald. Score now 17 – 10 to Grangemouth. Orkney continued to win most of the scrums, rucks and lineouts against the National League 2 opponents. Orkney continued to fight for that third score to tie the game. Sadly it never came. However it was a great team performance from Orkney who continue preparation for their first league game against Inverness Craig Dunain in Inverness on October 7th.
Captain’s thoughts: "I'm really pleased with the performance of the team. The Dragons rose to the occasion and played some good solid rugby with improvements on many levels. Grangemouth's greater experience won out on the day but we had them on the ropes in a few areas. The team's experience playing at this level is invaluable for the development our game and will stand us in good stead as we move forward with the North League fixtures."
