With Orkney having a lot of players playing out of position the same as last week's game, it took them a minute to get into their stride. Orkney started to show a lot of good set pieces and ball handling with the halftime score being 7-26 to Orkney. Orkney kicked to start the second half but with the low-lying sun being in between the posts this made Orkney’s no10 ‘s job a bit more difficult taking conversions. Orkney received a yellow card, giving Ross a one player advantage but this did not alter Orkney’s rate of play and continued to extend the score line. The game was stopped for a couple of minutes when the ref made Ross remove and replace their no5 when he tried to trip up Orkney’s ball carrier just on the try line. Orkney started to find big holes in Ross’s defence and finished the game with a score of 19 –71 to Orkney. Orkney’s try scorers = James Braddock, Cameron Boyd,Ashton Bruce, Lewis Moncrieff, Tom Hamilton 2, Murray Robertson, Ian Moar 2, Finlay Daintith, Micheal McGee. And 5 conversions from Ian Moar. Pickaquoy, Saturday 1 Feb 2025 Orkney knew this was going to be a tough game for them but with only being able to field a team of 13 players, things were made even harder when Orkney’s tight head prop had to pull out during the warmup. Dropping down to 12 players meant if Orkney lost one player during the game it would go to a development game. From the kick-off Gordonstoun showed they were here for the win, making Orkney defend for most of the first half. Orkney did show hope in the first half but ball handling and tackling was letting them down, with the first half finishing 0-45 to Gordonstoun. Orkney knew the win was falling away from them, however they were not going to let the score bother them and showed in the second what this talented squad were capable of. Orkney’s first points on the board came from Ruari and converted by Ian. This made them dig in even harder with their second try being set up by Orkney’s no9 on the blind side and passing it to no10 who scored and converted to bring Orkney’s score to 14. Some Orkney lads were starting to find it, playing a game with no subs. They managed to hold together for the rest of the game. The next try was from Cameron and conversion from Angus. The last try and conversion of the day was for Orkney coming from the no10 and the final score being 28-62 to Gordonstoun. Orkney would like to thank Gordonstoun for traveling to Orkney and the Ref on the day. Orkney’s team on the day: 1 = Lewis Moncreiff, 2 = Angus Dougall, 3= Murray Robertson , 4 =Ruari Towrie, 5 = Ben Sinclair, 6 = Cameron Boyd, 7 = Ben Paterson, 9 Michael McGee, 10 = Ian Moar, 11= Tom Hamilton, 12 = TaylorGibson 13 = Ashton Bruce, 15 = Finlay Waterson.
