Fixtures this weekend 18-2-23

The Dragons welcome Strathmore RFC to Picky at 1pm on Saturday in the Sarah Beaney Plate.

Unfortunately the 2nd XV Lyle Cup(*) game v Caithness has been called off but there will be an internal game instead.

Meanwhile the 1st XV travel to Greenock for a 2pm KO v Greenock Wanderers RFC.

On Sunday, the U16s are also in cup duties in Thurso, with playoffs against Caithness, Lochaber and Robert Gordon’s.

(*) MISSING IN ACTION: Both the Lyle Cup & Lynn Cup have gone missing from the clubhouse- if you know where they are (or can remember the last time you saw them!) please let Brian Lanni (tel: 870593) or any committee member know!

With a Quiz night, home games, six nations rugby as well as a selection of ales & gins for you to enjoy it's a weekend you won't want to miss!

Club opens 6pm – Quiz teams of 4 persons max - £10 entry - 7.30pm start

SATURDAY 11th March

Club opens 12 noon before the First XV play Gordonians RFC at 3pm
2nd XV v Skye RFC – 3pm at KGS
Six Nations Games on TV – Italy v Wales 14:15 & England v France 16:45

SUNDAY 12th March

Club opens 12 noon - Dragons v Kirkcaldy at 9.30am
Six Nations Games on TV in club – Scotland v Ireland 15:00

The latest ORFC internal game got underway this Saturday in Dounby with the home team ‘West’ taking on the ‘Barbarians’.

The game kicked off with a stiff breeze blowing across the pitch. West quickly took the game to the babas with some strong carry’s leading them into some good field position.

The West host the Orkney Babas this Saturday at 11:30 in Dounby.
Why not head over and enjoy the match once you’ve finished your walk/cycle and tea & biscuits?
Looks like both sides are expecting an explosive impact from the bench!

Then head back to the club to finish your day with some Six Nations, food & refreshments in the club from 13:45!

On Sunday, the U14s head for Thurso to play Caithness at 10:30.

Doddie Aid Cycle & Walk - Saturday 11 Feb 2023

There will be a walk & cycle in support of Doddie Aid on Saturday morning, leaving the rugby club at 08:30 & 10am.
Open to all Doddie Aid supporters, including dog walkers, kids etc etc.

The roughly 5k walk sets off at 10am & will go up the Muddisdale path, along Sunnybank and back down past the golf club to the Rugby club.

The longer of the two cycles departs at 08:30 and will head west, covering approximately 25 miles.

The shorter 10-15 mile cycle leaves at 10:00, heading around town or possibly out to Tankerness.

Feel free to join in part way through or complete the whole route.

There will Tea, Coffee & Biscuits available at the club afterwards!

Then get your fill of internal rugby out in Dounby where the West take on the Orkney Babas at 11:30 before heading back to the club for the Six Nations games: Ireland v France at 14:15 & Scotland v Wales at 16:45

There were numerous weather forecast checking, boat changes, player changes and that was before we left Orkney.

On the pitch there was good team work, good communication, a few players getting feisty, box kicks, gregans, interceptions, tries, conversions and even an undone bra strap which I’m sure those who wear bras will understand the level of fear that puts into you.

The Club is in need of volunteers to take up refereeing.

(*) Don’t worry, knowledge will be provided - a course will be set up to accommodate numbers.
