BT Caledonia League Division 1
Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday, September 26 ORKNEY RFC v HIGHLAND RFC Orkney RFC’s home league fixture against Highland RFC on Saturday, which was down for a 1pm kick-off at Pickaquoy, has been postponed due to a bereavement within the Inverness club. Highland RFC stalwart Colin High, who passed away last Friday afternoon, was a former Highland and North & Midlands player, well known in rugby circles throughout the country. He was a past captain and was 1st XV coach up till a couple of years ago. His son Gareth is Highland’s current vice-captain. Orkney RFC secretary Robert Leslie said: “Colin’s funeral is on Friday afternoon, so when Highland asked for Saturday’s match to be postponed we very quickly agreed due to the circumstances. Our fixtures secretary Graham Poke has passed on our condolences to Colin’s family and to the club.” The match will now be rescheduled in agreement with the SRU. Caledonia North U18 Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday, September 20 ORKNEY RFC U18s 17, GORDONDSTOUN SCHOOL U18s 22 On Saturday 20th September, Orkney managed to get the new season underway, other teams in the league having already played two or three games. BT Caledonia League Division 1 Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday, September 13 ORKNEY RFC 61, MORGAN ACADEMY 15 Orkney RFC kept up the high-scoring with a 61-15 thumping of Morgan Academy FP at the Pickaquoy Centre infield pitch on Saturday afternoon. BT Caledonia League Division 1 Pickaquoy Outfield - Saturday, September 6 ORKNEY RFC 50, MACKIE ACADEMY 21 Orkney RFC will be up for a second home win on the trot as they host Morgan Academy at Pickaquoy tomorrow, Saturday, with a 3pm kick-off. For the BT Caledonia League Division 1 side kicked off the 2014-15 season in fairly solid style last weekend, recording an – in the end - decisive 50-21 victory over well-known rivals Mackie Academy. Although this weekend’s visitors cuffed Ellon 66-7 at home on the same day, Orkney, having had one of their better starts to a league campaign over recent years, should still go into tomorrow’s clash with confidence following last week’s performance. Norman Sinclair from the Orkney Brewery presented the new 1st XV strip to club chairman Neil McCartney & the team at Sandwick prior to ORFC's first match of 2014/15 on Saturday 6th September. The team got off to an excellent start in BT Caledonia League Division 1 with a 50-21 bonus point win v Mackie Academy FP RFC at Picky later in the afternoon.
