There was a good turnout for last Saturday’s Internal game with a lot of good rugby on show in an evenly contested match which ended as a 34 – 34 draw. As the First XV squad didn’t have a game last Saturday some of them were out for a game and our Head Coach, Paul Livingstone and Team Manager, Garry Goltherd organised a team apiece. The game was refereed by Ian Rushbrook. For the Reds Matt Jackson got 3 tries, Bale(Ally Linklater), Ally Morgan and Dean Campbell all scored 1 try apiece, Ally Morgan converted one of the tries and Bruce Pinkerton converted another. Blacks scorers were Paul Johnston who got 2 tries, with one apiece from Graham Poke, Edgar Thomson, Kyle Robb and Stewart Esslemont. Graham Poke converted one the tries and David Bruce converted the other. After the game the teams were joined by other Club members to watch the two 6 Nations games that afternoon and you can imagine it was quiet lively in the Clubhouse as the final whistle was blown at Murrayfield. Thanks to all of the people who came along for a game, those who had helped to organise the teams in the lead up to Saturday and those who helped on the day. *** UPDATE *** Helen Nelson will be joining Jade Konkel at ORFC on Tuesday evening. Hi folks
We are definitely going ahead with an Internal Game this coming Saturday 24th of February with a kick off at 1130. We have had a good response from players of all ages and fitness levels so there will be some players coming on and off for short periods on the one hand but, as this first don't have a game on Saturday, some of those who have been injured and/ or need a run out will be coming along. We are optimistic that a contingent of Caithness players will be also be coming over for a game We will be playing on the main pitch at Pickaquoy After the game there will be a bit of grub for the players while we settle down to watch Ireland v Wales at 2.15pm followed by Scotland v England at 4.45pm in the 6 Nations Championship so we are looking forward to a good day all round Any questions contact Ian Carse on O7415 680 706 Last weekend the Orkney contingent of the Under 18 team who combine with Caithness Rugby Club to compete in Caledonia Competitions travelled south to play Montrose in the first round of the Caledonia Shield. This being the team’s first game for five month due to previous fixtures having to be called off due to weather and travel problems the coaches had reservations concerning the effect of such a long layoff. The concerns proved to be unfounded as the game commenced with the team showing skill and commitment against a well organised side containing a number of large players. Orkney didn’t get off the bus today for 30 minutes. Dalziel put out a strong side that matched Orkney in the tight and in the line out turnovers in crucial areas of the pitch ie the oppositions 22!
Orkney once they got off the bus started to put their phases together but Dalziel’s defence was resolute especially at the end of the 1st half after a sustained attack from Orkney which was held up on the line as the full time whistle was blown which stopped Orkney’s momentum unfortunately. The start of the 2nd half was when the game changed direction, Dalziel scored near enough from the kick off and heads dropped. Graham Poke & Scott Rendall with help from Danny Bain rallied the team and Orkney were firing on 3 cylinders which almost broke the Dalziel back, unfortunately for Orkney there were to many handling errors in crucial areas of the pitch which helped Dalziel gain the momentum! I cannot say that the Orkney side did not give 110% as that’s what they did, unfortunately it was basic skills that let us down, there are 19 disappointed players travelling home tonight and they know that they threw an opportunity out of the window which we should have taken. All I ask is the support of the Orkney RFC family to support this young squad who are trying their hardest to keep Orkney RFC in National 3 rugby. Final score Dalziel 36 Orkney 19 Try by Scott Rendall Conversion by Danny Bain 4 Penalties by Danny Bain MOM - Danny Bain deserved due to hard work & attitude. P.L. Hi folks, Unfortunately we have not been able to get the last two internal games played due to a mixture of bad weather and lack of players How would you feel about playing an internal game on 24 February in Kirkwall with a kick off at 1130? As the 6 Nations games are on that weekend we could watch Ireland v Wales at 1415 that day and Scotland v England at 1645 in the ORFC Clubhouse. If there is enough interest to get two fifteens out that day then I will book a pitch and get some catering organised if folk were wanting to stay on for the 6 Nations games
You will know that this Saturday (17 Feb) the First XV are playing a vital league match away from home v Dalziel and we wish them well. If you or your friends are down near Dalziel our team would welcome your support. On 3 March the First XV play another important National League 3 game v Perthshire at Pickie and the Ladies also have an important game at home on that day. So you may want to put that date in your diary too as it will be another big day for the Club and we could do with getting a BIG crowd out to support the teams. Can you please help me to circulate this to all the players that you think might fancy a game on the 24thFeb and put it onto your favourite social media sites. Then could you get back to me with some idea of how many folk may come out for a game and I will organise dressing rooms, catering and refs accordingly Thanks in anticipation of your help, Ian Carse - Vice Chair, ORFC Tel: 878339 Mob: O7415 680706 Norman Sinclair, Managing Director of ORFC's main sponsor Orkney Brewery, along with his two sons enjoyed a close up view of Scotland's thrilling victory over France on Saturday. #AsOne
