Orkney S1’s Match Report v Granite City 10 November 2019 Granite City arrived with a squad of 12 S 1’s and with 8 Orkney players available a ten a side match was organised played over 3 periods of 15 minutes on a full length pitch with the width reduced. As it was Remembrance Sunday a minutes silence was observed before the game started. The match started off as an open affair with both teams attacking strongly with the defences being not so strong. Orkney scored first with some good handling between Sammy Laughton, Angus Dougall, and Will Brass releasing Calum (one of the Granite City players) to open the scoring. From the restart Granite City attacked and then fumbled the ball. From the resultant scrum Orkney pressurised the Granite City defence with Craig Morris ending up with the ball to run over and score the second try. Will converted the try and Orkney were 12-0. With Christmas approaching and a big day at ORFC tomorrow we will have the 50th Anniversary Books on sale all day. There are only a few books left, so if you know someone who would like one as a Christmas, Birthday or Anniversary gift you can get one at the Club tomorrow. The Orcadian Bookshop will also be selling any remaining copies of the Club’s 50th Anniversary Book if you can’t get into town tomorrow. Each book covers the full history of the club as well as all the match facts and statistics throughout its history, and there is an abundance of photos of all the Club’s teams from its inception until the end of last season. A book only costs £25 and each purchase makes a good contribution to the Club’s funds. In addition, two signed books will be raffled tomorrow and, while quite a few raffle tickets have already been sold, more will be on sale at tomorrow’s games so you can buy tickets to get a chance of securing one of these special edition books. Tennent's Women's Caledonia North League (Stage 2) Lerwick - Saturday 2nd November 2019 Shetland Ladies 48, Orkney Dragons 12 On Saturday 2nd November the Orkney Dragons travelled up to Shetland in the second half of the Tennent's Women’s North League. Due to the nature of Loganair's winter flight timetable the journey involved flying via Aberdeen plus an overnight stay in Shetland. With these added logistical pressures the Dragons found themselves travelling with just 2 replacements- a rather daunting prospect against a team like Shetland. However in true Orkney RFC style they arrived in good spirits ready to take on whatever the Shetland Ponies had to throw at them. Unlike Orkney that day Shetland was dry and bright but with a strong easterly wind blowing up the park. |
