Well done to Caithness U15 girls for winning the Shield at Murrayfield The Orkney girls pictured with the shield are: Paige Scott, Tallis Scott, Shannon Pasotti, Catherine Green and Zoe Deerness Orkney eased to a win in the 52nd Orkney Rugby Sevens this afternoon, winning a hard-fought final against Peebles. The weather was kind to the popular event — a cold wind but the sun was shining — which attracted a large crowd. Sixteen sides took to the field on the day — down on the expected 19 — with just two travelling sides — losing finalists Peebles and semi-finalists on their 30th consecutive Orkney Sevens appearance, Grangemouth. Orkney player of the tournament Stephen MacPhail, Alex Kansour, Matt Jackson and James Linklater saw Orkney retain their title, winning 26-12 to leave the home side and their fans delighted. (Report courtesy of The Orcadian) The other winners on the day were Orkney Dragons - Women's Trophy; Eastionians - Pail; Auld Bulls - Bowl & Ale Stars - Plate. For a full list of results, visit the Sevens Page Saturday 4th May 2019 saw over 110 primary school aged girls and boys playing in the Orkney RFC Rookie and Mini rugby tournaments which was kindly sponsored by Insulation King.
45 Rookies (P1 to P3) made up four teams and they each played 3 matches of tag rugby. The matches were keenly contested and saw the Greens edging ahead of the Yellows to take the top spot. Reds came third and Blues were fourth. The Primary 3 players will have taken part in some Transition Sessions, getting them ready for Mini rugby and from what we have seen today, they will blend in seamlessly. Each of the 45 participants received a medal, kindly donated by Insulation King. *** UPDATE *** And the Winner is ... Jo Inkster- who recommended giving a copy of "Still Flying High after 50 Years" to Angus so he can enjoy poring over all the stats! Congratulations Jo!
