Car Book Sale Day 2 - Birsay, Dounby & Finstown

20/6/2019

Birsay, Dounby & Finstown - Wednesday 19 June

It was an interesting day with people coming across to say hello and to have a look at what the car was all about – that’s when is wasn’t raining of course because, like Stromness on Monday, there wee some heavy showers when we were all diving for cover

I only made 3 sales but it would be fair to say folk were interested in the Book and quite a few local shops, hotels and other retail outlets took order forms from and put them up as posters

Next stops are at Deerness Community Centre between 1700 and 1800  on 2 July and St Margaret’s Hope next to Community Centre on 8 July between 1600 and 1800

Look foward to seeing you then-

Stromness Book Sale Monday 17 June

18/6/2019

Despite barely surviving a "fine summer evening in Stromness" with a single piece of dry clothing, Ian Carse enjoyed a few good conversations with locals and tourists alike - covering rugby from Orkney to Georgia and selling a few books in the process!

If you missed out on grabbing a copy of the Anniversary Book in Stromness, Ian is looking forward to the next stage of his Car Book Sale this coming Wednesday 19 June when he will be in Birsay from 1530 until 1630, then Dounby between 1700 and 1800 and finishing off in Finstown between 1815 and 1915.

If anyone wants a book set aside please contact him using:

"Wan Man & His Van" - coming soon to a car park near you!

14/6/2019

OK, so it's actually a Ford Focus but that doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

Ian Carse is planning a "Car Book Sale" at various locations around the mainland to give folk a chance to get their hands on one of the remaining copies of "Still Flying High After 50 Years".

Keep an eye out for Ian in a silver Ford Focus with display boards over the next few weeks.
The planned dates / locations / times are as follows (while stocks last - books are £25 each):
  • 17 June - Stromness Ferry Terminal car park: 1730-1830
  • 19 June - Birsay near the Palace entrance: 1530-1630
  • 19 June - Dounby car park at crossroads: 1700-1800
  • 19 June - Finstown car park: 1815-1915
  • 2 July - Deerness Community Centre: 1700-1800
  • 8 July - St Margaret’s Hope near the Cromarty Hall: 1600-1800
If you can’t make any of these times or locations but want to order a book act now!
Call or text our Book Team Co-ordinator, Ian Carse to reserve a book on 07415 680706 or email: [email protected] and leave your name, address and phone number so that Ian can get back to you

First Walking Rugby game at ORFC

12/6/2019

Orkney’s first official game of walking rugby took place on Saturday at the end of a highly successful Dementia Awareness Week.
While the medical bag was bigger than the kit bag, thankfully neither the stretcher nor the crutches were required.
It was great fun, satisfyingly knackering and a good way to spend time with friends.

Thanks to Age Scotland Orkney for help organising and keep your eyes open for future fixtures in the weeks ahead.
