BT Caledonia League Division 1
Morgan Rugby Club - Saturday, December 20 Morgan Academy FP v Orkney Orkney RFC's away fixture against Morgan Academy RFC has been postponed this weekend, due to uncertainty over making transport connections and proximity to the Christmas holidays. The club had been concerned that Morgan's unwillingness to switch the kick-off time away from 2pm would hamper ability to make the return ferry journey, and weather uncertainty only added to this. Mark Salter, the SRU's Caledonia Region Competitions Administrator said: "I can confirm that the Caledonia Competitions Committee have agreed to the dispensation request by Orkney and allow this fixture to be rescheduled. This in no way sets a precedence and is classed as a one off dispensation due to the proximity to the Christmas holidays, the seasonal unpredictability of the weather and transport chaos this could cause. This fixture will be rescheduled to 21st March 2015 as this is the first available date for both teams." BT Caledonia League Division 1
Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday, December 6 Orkney RFC 22, Hillfoots RFC 3 Orkney RFC secured another bonus point win - and progressed to the final of the BT Caledonia Shield - beating Hillfoots 22-3 in their double-header at a windy and wet Pickaquoy on Saturday afternoon. As well as keeping Orkney top of the league on 39 points to Glenrothes on 37, it also handed them a home tie - against Glenrothes - in the Shield final, which will be played on Saturday, February 21. Last Saturday the 6th of December Orkney under 18s travelled away to take on Gordonstoun who are currently top of the table. With both teams showing good form in recent games it was always going to be a close encounter. Conditions were good but a soft pitch made it difficult at times.
Orkney host Hillfoots tomorrow - Saturday, December 6 - for a league and cup double header that is due to kick off at 1pm at Pickaquoy.
A solid set of performances throughout November sees Orkney move into December at the top of Caledonia League Division 1, with last weekend’s 54-7 win away to Ellon putting them on 34 points - one ahead of Gordonians. The thumping win - ten tries and two conversions to one converted try - completed back-to-back bonus-point results for Orkney, following the previous Saturday's 24-5 home win over Strathmore. |
