Deeside RFC, Moray RFC and Lochaber RFC made the trip north with great numbers of girls from P6 to u18s to join the Orkney girls in a day of mix game and development, the palm of the stronger squad going to Lochaber with 24 girls making the trip!
Caley made the stronger start with more possession and territory, with the pressure forcing Edinburgh into a defensive error, leading to Caley's first try 8 minutes in. 5-0 Caley. Edinburgh dug deep to eventually find a way through a solid Caley defence and even the scoreline 5-5 just before half time.
Orkney RFC have won Community Club of the Season in the 2024 Scottish Rugby Community Recognition Award for Caledonia North!
This is a hugely deserved recognition of all the effort that a large number of people have put into every section of the club over the years! Massive Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you so much! Read more below from the Scottish Rugby website U16 Caledonia Plate Semi-Final
Falkirk, Saturday 9th March 2024 Falkirk U16 v Orkney U16 (46-19) The Orkney lads were off on their travels again, the semi-final in the Caledonia Plate. A boat trip down to Aberdeen overnight, with an early start on the road at 7.15am with a bus trip to Falkirk. A quick warm up and stretch of the legs, however this boat and bus journeys take their toll on the lads. This showed with Falkirk scoring 4 tries with one being converted in quick succession of one another. Orkney were playing some good flowing rugby and very good scrums. Michael Scarth with a quick tap penalty led to a try and a conversion from Ronan Hamilton.
The treasure hunt in Duthie park was cut short by the Aberdeen rain, but the girls enjoyed a visit of the David Welch Winter Garden instead, then headed for Dunnottar Castle as the sky cleared for some amazing views.
Play restarted and Orkney again advanced into the Huntly half, with our first try coming from the “Stronsay Express” Wilbur, making an impact playing as a crash 12 again. Conversion was missed, score 5-0 to Orkney.
