Youth Rugby Report | U13/14s in Caithness 30-10-22

Orkney travelled to Thurso on Sunday 30 October with two mixed U13/14 teams (Orkney White/Red and Orkney Yellow/Black) for games against Caithness U14s. The two Orkney sides played 30 minutes each.

Three Home teams in action Saturday 29 October

The Dragons are first up at Picky on Saturday against Peterhead Ladies at 12:30, followed by the 1st XV v Hillhead Jordanhill at 2pm with Halloween Themed Beer Pong in the evening.

Big thank you to Highland Park Whisky for sponsoring both Senior matches!

On Sunday, the U16s host Carnoustie at 12 noon while the U14s are away in action in Caithness.

Introducing your new Community Rugby Coach

Orkney RFC are pleased to announce that Sean Corrigall has been appointed as our new Community Rugby Coach.

His duties will include assisting Development Officer, John Cairns in delivering high quality coaching sessions in schools, clubs and organisations to leave a lasting impact on the local community.

Club Chairman, Willie Stewart commented:

Sean will bring a lot of experience in coaching and playing to the club, having coached U12s at Greerton Marist rugby club, Tauranga, N.Z. while playing for their seniors and at Avignon Le Pontet rugby club in France where he was assistant coach to the U18s while also playing for their seniors.
He has the level 2 certificate and has helped coached our Ladies team and also has received advanced coaching with the World Class rowing squad.

Caithness Evergreens 20, Orkney Vikings 7 (approximately!)

Last weekend saw 28 Orkney Vikings (over 35 years old veterans) from Orkney RFC, one Lady supporter and an all-important Physio travelled to Thurso to take part in the inaugural “Come Ashore Cup” in memory of Alexander Mill who tragically died around 16 months ago.

The weekend was a celebration in his memory with a real focus on mental health and the importance of speaking up and that “it is ok not to be ok”.

The Orkney Vikings were honoured to be invited to join this amazing event and even sent an advance party across to check out the lay of the land and make sure that all preparations were in hand!

On Saturday 22nd October 2022 Orkney Rugby senior men’s team travelled to Glasgow for their latest Tennent’s national league division three fixture. Opponents on the day being Allan Glens. Like Orkney having won their regional league the previous season and the sides only separated by a point.

Autumn Nations Mascot Opportunity | Scotland v Argentina 19-11-22

We have an exciting opportunity for one of Orkney RFC youth players to be a Team Mascot for the upcoming Autumn Test Fixture Scotland v Argentina on Saturday 19 November (KO 3:15pm).

Message from the SRU:

“We have selected your club as a “Thank You” for all the work you are currently facilitating within the youth space and the hard work you have done to engage with your community and grow the youth game.
SRU would require one individual to be selected, who are aged between 6-11 years old and who highlight that rugby is Everyone’s Game. Mascots will need to arrive at BT Murrayfield a few hours ahead of kick-off to allow sufficient time for kit distribution and run-throughs.”

Each Mascot will receive:

3 complimentary tickets (one ticket for the mascot themselves) with the option to buy more if requested (maximum of 2 additional tickets)
Match Programme
Framed Photograph (sent post-match)
Food & Drink Voucher
Kit (Joggers and a Jersey)
They will also be provided with a jacket for the day (they cannot keep this)

All mascots will feature in the match day programme, therefore we also require a recent photo of the individual.
If your son or daughter would love to have this amazing opportunity please contact the Club Secretary by email and their name will be placed in a draw.
NAMES MUST BE IN BY SATURDAY 22 OCTOBER.
The draw will be done by the committee on Sunday 23 October.

The men travel to Glasgow to play Allan Glens at 2:30pm while the women are in Fraserburgh for a noon kick off.
