Orkney RFC are holding a "Walk to Talk" event, starting from the clubhouse from 6pm on Sunday 13th December. The idea being to set off in pairs, have a yarn & catchup. If you are interested please register using the Eventbrite link to give us an idea of numbers & if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact Orkney RDO, John Cairns at [email protected]. Keep an eye on the weather and check here or social media for updates. ![]() It was a funny old day as I gathered all of my stuff and headed off to create a selling pitch at the top of Castle Street but then the heavens opened and I could not get going. I went back when the rain stopped but by then it was a bit gloomy and it seemed that folk were scurrying home before more rain came. However, before packing it in for the day I popped in to see our friends at The Orcadian Bookshop. Low and behold they handed me £150 from books sales in the shop!! Needless to say I was delighted and it proves that some folk are still buying the book, perhaps, as Christmas presents, but maybe for other reasons too. Which is great news. The Orcadian staff have been brilliant helping us with the book from start to finish of this project. It involved all of their office and production staff initially and we got good support with the promotion of the book through their journalists. Then the bookshop staff helped us to promote and sell the book. ORFC are delighted with the help we have received from all of The Orcadian staff and it is a big thank you to each and everyone of them. Logo staff also deserve a mention too because Mary and her folk also sold books for us in the early days. So I’m a happy man and will try again next Saturday to sell a few books for Christmas but I will move my pitch over beside the supermarkets in town as The Orcadian Bookshop is obviously doing so well for us in town. Have a nice festive folks and call me on 878339 or 07415 680706 if you want to buy a book for a loved one or yourself – at only £25 its a bargain and its packed full of interesting stories and statistics about the development of Orkney Rugby Club over the 50 years of its existence.
