U18 Bowl Round 1
Thurso, 26 September 2015 Orkney / Caithness U18s 41 - Montrose U18s 22 On Saturday 26th Setptember the Orkney contingent of the under 18 team traveled across the Firth to meet up with the Caithness members for a Nation Bowl 1st Round game against Montrose RFC. The strength of the opposition was unknown as the clubs had never played each other at this level. The game was played in ideal conditions being dry, warm and just a light breeze. The scoring was opened after five minutes with the home side being awarded a penalty in the centre of the pitch, Sam Croy stepped up to slot the ball between the posts for the three points. A big thanks to everyone who took part in our last Second XV game on 12th September - our next internal game will be at the ORFC Clubhouse on Saturday 10th October with a 12 noon kick off - come and join in! For more information: Contact Ian Carse on 878339 or 07415 680706 Our second fifteen games have proved to maintain their popularity and competitiveness, with our next game scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, with a 12:00pm KO on the ORFC back pitch. This will allow us all to watch Scotland v Samoa game in the clubhouse after our match as it kicks off at 2.30pm. It has been pleasing to see new players coming along for a game and others donning their boots once more so please feel free to come along and join in. There are now several groups training in different parts of Orkney, with Caithness showing interest in playing an inter-county game in the near future. The Rugby Club will be open from 11:45 this Sunday for the RWC super Sunday. Come along and back your team in the comfortable surroundings of the recently refurbished Club lounge on our two huge televisions.
Have you got your Prize Draw tickets yet? Our annual prize draw will be drawn after the next home game on 3rd October in clubhouse. First Prize is Two tickets to Scotland v France 13th Mar16 plus return flights from Kirkwall & 2 nights B&B in Edinburgh plus several other prizes. Speak to any player in all sections or committee member for your tickets and good luck everyone! The weekend of the 19th-20th saw Rookies & Minis from all sections coming together at Kirkwall for a combined World Cup Rugby tournament and BBQ. Our Minis sections found themselves representing one of the countries from the World Cup in two small 4-way tournaments, through P4-5 and P6-7. All of this, in preparation for the newly established Jack Rendall Memorial Cup to greet our 2015/2016 season. Minis this year will be getting their own slice of the youth and senior leagues by representing their section in both Home and Away fixtures, with points scored going forward into the next round to work out our victors for the year. Our Rookies had their own style of World Cup Rugby with some point scoring team games and chance to test out the rugby skills of their parents in a game of Tag Bulldogs to finish. All this, rounded off with plenty of sun and the welcome of BBQ food meant that our players and parents could relax and enjoy the club atmosphere. **Information for the Minis Jack Rendall Memorial Cup will be sent out shortly, please ensure you have an up to date membership to avoid missing the email** Orkney/Caithness U18s 19, Ross Sutherland U18s 5
Picky, Saturday 19th September 2015 With Orkney under 18 Rugby Team finding difficulty in fielding a full team and Caithness RFC in the same situation it was agreed between the two clubs to combine the teams and play under the banner Orkney/Caithness. The first game for the team was a game against Ross Sutherland with five boys coming across from Caithness to join the Orkney team, it is hoped that more will follow in the coming weeks. Please note today's match in Livingston kicks off at 2pm and not 3pm as previously advertised.

Good luck! Last Saturday (12th September 2015) was the second game of the West v Rest series on the back pitch and again it was another good game of rugby with another group of new players joining some players making a comeback to the teams after a spell away. This created different teams from those that played in the first game of the series but the high standard was maintained in a very enjoyable game which was watched by a small crowd, some of the Committee, the first XV captain and the first XV manager as well as some first XV players, and the game was well refereed by Ian Rushbrook.
