Internal Rugby - East v West - Currie Cup Round 2
It was a fine day for rugby last Saturday when the two internal teams East and West took the field at Pickaquoy for what tuned into a well contested game which the West team won 39-33. The weather was in marked contrast to the first game played in Dounby on 9 February where it was cold, wet and windy and which the East won by 32-5 on a day when it when it was difficult to get good accurate handling going in such yucky conditions. As it had been agreed that the destination of the Currie Cup would be decided on the aggregate score over these two legs, the East now have the honour of holding the Currie Cup for 2019, with the aggregate scores being 65-44 in favour of the East team. The final selections have been made and the full squad for the Real Ale Weekend 2019 has been announced! -

Thirteen ORFC coaches had a great weekend at the UKCC Level 2: Coaching Youth & Adult Rugby course with Sinclair Patience - Scottish Rugby's Caledonia North Regional Manager
It’s been a couple of years since the Club has run this popular event. In celebration of its resurgence we have some quality ales on offer including these Award Winners: ![]() DARK ISLAND RESERVE This extraordinary ale, aged in whisky casks, lagered for 3 months in old Dalmore whisky oak barrels. This slow process makes a classic - a fruity, spiced, oak roasted malt flavour. Dark Island Reserve, Orkney Brewery’s speciality 10% ABV ale, has won a plethora of awards since it was introduced, most recently it secured the UK country winner accolade in the dark beer (strong) category, at the World Beer Awards in August 2018. Also in 2018, Dark Island Reserve took the gold in the Cask Speciality Mid to Dark Beers category at the SIBA Scotland Independent Beer Awards. ![]() BOLTMAKER A well-balanced, genuine Yorkshire Bitter from Timothy Taylor, with a full measure of maltiness and hoppy aroma – Boltmaker is first choice for the discerning drinker – on both sides of the Pennines. Formerly known as Best Bitter, Boltmaker has won many awards over the years but most recently it was awarded the CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Britain in 2014 and Champion Beer of Britain – Bitter category in 2016. ![]() CWTCH (rhymes with Butch) It isn’t your average bitter - the hops do more to this deep amber coloured beer than just provide bite. Any old hop can do that! We’ve selected some of the most aromatic and tangy hops from the other side of the pond to give this red a fresh hit that complements the caramel flavours of the malts that gives this beer its colour. Drinkability and balance makes this beer. Cwtch was crowned Champion Beer of Britain, Supreme Champion Bronze winner, and Best Bitter Gold winner in the 2017 CAMRA awards.
**IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR KIRKWALL MINI'S**
The training session for Saturday 16th February has been cancelled due to the long weekend resulting in player and coaches unavailability. The following week will be the West Tournament in Dounby on Saturday 23rd. Last Saturday, 2nd Feb 2019, saw the latest round of the Jack Rendall Memorial Cup matches being played with East Rugby travelling to Kirkwall for the Primary 4/5 and Primary 6/7 match.
There had been a lot of rain on the run up to the games but two dry pitches were marked out and the weather was relatively kind to the players and spectators alike. Morning folks. Just been to the Club at 8:30 and you’ll be glad to know that there is no water getting any where near the step at the containers.
However, I have cleared the grill at the culvert upstream from the Club and also the grate at the back of the Club as the ditch was overlapping. The brown water is now going where it is supposed to be going. An OIC man in a van turned up at 8:50 as I was heading away! As a result of the poor state of the back pitch I would like to prohibit training on it for at least 24 to 48hrs from this point. It was very greasy in bits yesterday morning and it will be wrecked if folk go on it at this present time. Photos attached Regards Neil ![]() Hi guys Hope everyone is well.
