REMINDER - This Saturday’s game against Hillfoots will be the last one on the centre pitch this season as work commences on the new Lido, or outdoor swimming pool at Picky next week. This will involve the grass being replaced by removable drop-in pitch sections with a state of the art 5G playing surface. It will be capable of being heated from underneath in winter to ensure that matches can continue during ice & snow conditions. The process of transforming from pitch to pool or vice-versa can be completed in under 6 hours. With a capacity of over 2 million litres, the pool can also act as an emergency floodwater soak away during periods of extreme rain, draining out to the Peedie Sea at low tide. The Lido is being financed jointly by lottery funding in preparation for the 2025 Island Games and by the visiting cruise ship operators in a bid to boost passenger numbers to pre pandemic levels. See full details of the development plan with 3D flyover on the Picky Centre website At the weekend, Orkney RFC had three U16s and one U18 playing in National Shield finals for Caithness at the DAM Health Stadium in Edinburgh. Rachel McNeish, Jasmin Brown & Paige Scott played for the U16s against Tayside, while Catherine Green joined ex-Orkney player Shannon Pasotti in the U18 side v Dundee Rugby. Both were hard games, against more physical teams, under the blazing Edinburgh sun. Unfortunately, Caithness didn't bring either shield home but the girls put in a hard shift and didn't give up the fight, catching up in the second half (though not enough to take the win)

Quarter Final - Perthshire v Orkney Perth, 13 March 2022 On Saturday morning a 21 strong Orkney under 16s team set off to travel South, stopping overnight in Dundee before travelling Sunday morning to meet Perthshire. Perthshire, the winners of the Midlands Pool B section, hosted the Quarter Final knock-out Cup game at their grounds at North Inch, Perth. Perthshire were unable to field an experienced front row for their scrum resulting in uncontested scrums, instantly changing the style of rugby that Orkney had prepared for.
