CANCELLED Internal Rugby: Dounby Saturday 3rd Feb

*** UPDATE ***
The weather has beaten us once again and we are sorry to say the Internal Game planned for Saturday morning in Dounby has been cancelled because the pitch is unplayable

Hi folks

We are planning an Internal Game for this Saturday 3 Feb in Dounby with a kick off at 1030 so that we can see the start of the 6 Nations at 2pm - Ian Rushbrook has agreed to referee.

Also, Caithness are trying to get their Second XV up and going again and they would be up for a game in Thurso if we were interested. So we could use this Saturday as preparation for a second XV game if that would work.

Please help spread the word as widely as you can,

Youth Rugby Roundup 28-1-18

The Orkney under 18s were unable to travel across the Firth yesterday to play their much delayed game against Moray/Huntly due to the weather.
If the game didn't take place this time, the result would be decided by the toss of a coin, and Caithness U18s managed to beat Muntly 22-17

Also the U14s & U16s travelled to Invergordon today to play Ross Sutherland today.
The U14s won 40-6 while the U16s played a development game.

Jack Rendall Memorial Cup Match – Kirkwall v Kirkwall 27-1-18

Saturday 27th January saw 25 hardy girls and boys play last weeks postponed Jack Rendall Memorial Cup match on the back pitch at the Rugby Club. The coaches had set out the pitch in damp conditions but within an hour and by the time the first kick-off took place there was a river of surface water coming down off the fields.

The primary 4 and 5’s were first to play so it was Kirkwall Whites against Kirkwall Reds.

ORKNEY RFC 7, GLASGOW ACCIES RFC 17

Tremendous effort by Orkney RFC, 5 minutes to go in a hard fought forward battle and leading 7-5 against the 2nd place Glasgow Accies was above and beyond by the 19 who took to the field.

It was not the most open or flowing game of rugby but both sides made an enjoyable match to watch, from minute one Accies knew they were in a fight of their lives to get past a resolute Orkney defence and when Orkney had the ball in their hands it was hard to get it off them.

Here's your Orkney RFC 1st XV to play Glasgow Accies RFC at Picky tomorrow at 2pm.
The next home game isn't until the 3rd of March, so come along and show your support while you get the chance!

The 1st XV are hosting 2nd place Glasgow Accies at Picky on Saturday - 2pm kick-off

Meanwhile the youth teams are on the road - the U18s are in Thurso playing Moray/Huntly at 14:30 and on Sunday the U14s & U16s travel to Invergordon to play Ross Sutherland with kick-offs planned for 12:00-12:30

Successful night for ORFC at Orkney Sports Awards 2017

Two Orkney RFC volunteers picked up well deserved individual awards at last night's Orkney Sports Awards held at Kirkwall Grammar School, while the Women's Team were shortlisted for Team of the Year.

Club chairman Neil McCartney was awarded Sports Volunteer of the Year, while women's coach Gary Nicolson was named Coach of the Year.

Neil commented;

Well done to Orkney Ladies Rugby team for making it through to this years shortlist at the Orcadian Sports Awards tonight. You were in a tough group and I am sure that you will hold the Team of the Year trophy soon.

Gary Nicolson you thoroughly deserved the Coach of the Year for your hard work that you and the other Coaches put into the Ladies section.

I am truly humbled at being nominated and winning Sports Volunteer of the Year tonight. It means a lot to me recieving it but in my speech, I really meant it when I said I have been an active volunteer in the Club as a way of paying back the great times that it (the Club) has given me for 20 years. I accept the Award on behalf of all of the volunteers over all the years that have made Orkney RFC the great Club that it is today.

1st XV match succumbs to the weather

St Boswells spent the afternoon clearing snow from their pitch but unfortunately to no avail and the match will be rescheduled for a later date.

Internal game in Dounby - rescheduled for 3 Feb
U18s v Moray/Huntly in Thurso on Saturday - rescheduled TBC
Kirkwal MINI Rugby league match - instead Minis will meet at 9:30am at the Club to go into the indoor arena until 11am. Kids can be picked up from the Clubhouse after the juice and crisps have been dished out.
1st XV Away v St Boswells - recsheduled TBC
U14s & U16s AWAY v Ross Sutherland in Invergordon. Re-arranged for possibly next week

Rugby still ON but weather dependent:

Women Away v Shetland. Scheduled 12:30 Kick off on Sunday
Mini Rugby league match in St Andrews on Sunday. Looking doubtful but will be reviewed at lunchtime on Saturday

Internal Rugby game postponed

Sadly after all that we have organised to get this game played on Saturday the weather has beaten us and the groundsman called the game off this evening because the pitch in his opinion is unplayable

I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you but this is outside of our control

Steven Wylie called me to confirm Saturday’s cancellation but suggested it should just be a postponement and the we should try and play this game in Dounby on 3 February with an earlier kick off, say 10am, 1030 or 11am, because the 6 Nations kicks off that day with Wales v Scotland in Cardiff. Noting too that our First XV is scheduled to play Highland in Inverness that day.

Could you let myself or Steven know if you could play in this re-arranged Internal fixture that morning of 3 February as we are keen to keep Internal Rugby alive and kicking
