Dunfermline arrived with a strong team and after 30 minutes play there was still no score. Orkney made some excellent caries through the forwards, especially by Niall Campbell and Darren MacLean. Chances were available but we over played, trying to offload when we should have just set up for another play. Orkney eventually broke through and captain Scott Rendall scored the first try, converted by Connor Hancock. Half time: 7 nil. After an inspiring half time team talk by Scott Rendall, Orkney controlled things much better and were rewarded with two more tries from Chris Guthrie and Niall Campbell, one converted by Connor, who also slotted over a penalty. Dunfermline replied with a well worked move feeding the right winger who scored in the corner, the conversion was missed. Orkney had the last say with vice captain Scott Russell scoring out wide, conversion missed. A fantastic result for Orkney against a very good team. Absolutely delighted with the performance from all the boys. Final score 29-5 and another bonus point win. G.C. Watch livestream of Orkney v Dunfermline from 12:00! Or even better, watch in person! Come along to Picky and cheer on the Dragons who play Inverness Craig Dunain at noon on the centre pitch, while the men play Dunfermline on the outfield pitch.👍🏉🏉
Tennent's Caledonia Region League Division 1 Blairgowrie - Saturday 4th September 2021 Blairgowrie RFC 12, Orkney RFC 24 Match Video by George Brown On Friday 3rd September 2021 Orkney set off on their travels to Blairgowrie for their first Caledonia regional league game following the long Covid break. The scrum and line-out performed well but lacked a bit of support for ball carriers at times and gave away too many penalties. Blairgowrie were a tough team to break down. First half try scorers were Liam Moar, scoring his first ever try for Orkney, converted by Connor Hancock and Vice captain Scott Russell. Blairgowrie replied with a converted try. Half time 7-12 Second half tries were scored by Graham Poke and another by Scott Russell plus one converted by Connor. Captain Scott Rendall, playing at open side flank, linked well with the backs and kept the game flowing. Blairgowrie had the last say with an unconverted try. Some very good individual performances. Obviously not the polished article from our last playing season, but a great result on the road. Final score: 12-24 with a try bonus point to Orkney.
