Granite City Colts U18s 27, Orkney/Caithness U18s 27

Last Saturday the Orkney Under 18 squad travelled down to Dundee meeting up with the Caithness contingent of the team, proceeding to St Andrews on Sunday to play Granite City in the Caledonian Shield Final.

With the opposition playing in a higher level Competition a tough game was expected, undeterred the side took the game to the opposition with winger Michael McGregor opening the scoring with a well taken try inside five minutes the conversion being missed.

Double success for Orkney Senior teams at Picky

Orkney RFC's First XV has avoided relegation with a 36-25 win over Perthshire, also securing the Clark Thomson Cup, played for between the two sides as they are both home to offices of the firm.

Next up Orkney Dragons beat Shetland Women 39-24 to claim the Women's North League title ...

The kick off is at 11am and the match is followed by Orkney Women v Shetland Ladies at 2pm.

Busy final weekend ahead at ORFC

There's a full weekend of rugby ahead for ORFC as the season draws towards a close.

First off, on Saturday at 10am at ORFC, the mini rugby teams take part in the final round of the Jack Rendall Memorial Cup

Then at 11am on the Picky centre pitch, the 1st XV play Perthshire RFC in their final home game of the season, followed by the Dragons who take on Shetland at 2pm.

On Sunday, the Under 14s & 16s are across the Firth playing Caithness & Lochaber in Thurso.

So please get along and cheer on any of the teams if you get a chance

Dragons Road to Murrayfield blocked by quality opponents

The sun shone for what was dubbed as ‘The Road to Murrayfield’ match for The Orkney Dragons against National 1 team Garioch in the semi- final of the BT Women’s Bowl.

Orkney arrived at Kelland’s park expecting a tough and physical challenge against the experienced reigning champions but were prepared with a strong squad and a great turnout of supporters.

Two huge games for Orkney Senior Teams this weekend

Both Men's & Women's teams are in action this weekend, in what are massive games for everyone involved.

On Saturday at 2pm on the Picky Centre pitch, the 1st XV will be looking to remain clear of the bottom 2 relegation spots as they take on Murrayfield Wanderers, who themselves are fighting to secure a promotion place.

The Dragons, meanwhile continue their march to Murrayfield as they travel to play Garioch Women in the semi-final of the BT Women's Bowl. The game kicks off on Sunday at 12 noon at Kellands Park, Inverurie.

Described in the Haddington match programme as part of the “the dogfight to avoid relegation” from National Division 3 which includes 4 teams, Perthshire, Dalziel, Haddington and Orkney this match lived up to it’s billing, but it was also a performance laced with class, huge effort and total commitment from our squad last Saturday.

The team that started the game James Linklater, Kyle Robb, Jon Tait, Dean Campbell, Scott Russell, Taylor Pilkington-Tait, David Bruce, Craig Rendall, Scott Rendall, Ally Linklater, Darren McLean, Danny Bain, Don Tualasea, Kenny Roger and Robbie Firth with all of the replacements – Steven Groat, Andrew Linklater, Cameron Gray and Graham Poke – all playing their part in securing a hard fought and well earned victory.
