Saturday 24th November saw the latest fixtures in the Jack Rendall Memorial Cup being played in Kirkwall with the West mini rugby teams travelling in to play the Kirkwall mini rugby teams.
The weather was uncharacteristically nice for late November so the players were able to play and spectators watch in near perfect conditions. The P4/P5 matches started with Kirkwall Reds taking on West Blues. Kirkwall won this match 7 – 6. After a short break, Kirkwall Reds faced West Greens. West Greens won this match 9 – 0. Referee for the P4/5 matches was A Watson. The P6/7 match saw Kirkwall Greens taking on West. The teams played 3 segments so that they maximised their game time. At the end of the match, the score was Kirkwall Greens 2 – West 8. Referee for the P6/7 match was S Spence. NM This evening's joint Youth Rugby training session has been cancelled due to the weather forecast. ☔🌬
Please pass on the word! 📢 Caithness came over to play the return fixture with Orkney and as they only had 8 players, 7 member of the Orkney side went over to play for them. These 7 players were rotated every 20 minutes as the game was played over 3 x 20 minute periods.
Caithness kicked off and Orkney worked the ball into space and Travis Davis scored the first try of the day. Aiden Cooper converted to give a 7-0 lead. Caithness pressurised the Orkney defence but strong defending from the home side saw them hold out. It was then Orkney’s turn to attack and some strong team work enabled Isaac Deerness top score a try. Oscar Payne converted to make it 14-0. Orkney kept up the strong attacking and scored again this time through Jason Scott and Oscar converted to make it 21-0 as the first 20 minutes came to an end. Tennent's Women's North League Pickaquoy Infield, Saturday 24th November 2018 Orkney Dragons 27, Shetland Women 31 On Saturday 24th November the final game of the Tennent’s Women’s North League was once again the decider for top place between Orkney Dragons and island rivals Shetland Women. Orkney’s home defeat to Inverness Craig Dunain earlier in the season had left them in the precarious position of not only needing a bonus point win but also the need to prevent Shetland taking away any bonus.
It will be a busy one for all at ORFC. Orkney Dragons v Shetland ladies KO at 10:30am. The women are looking for a big crowd to cheer them on to securing the league title for a second year running.

Tennent's Women's North League Inverness, Saturday 10th November 2018 Inverness Craig Dunain Ladies 5, Orkney Dragons 32 First half kick off by ICD received by our girls who ran straight back at the opposition and with a good set of through the hands passing put them up to ICD’s 22 followed by a driving run from Jennifer Scott scoring the first try 0-5. There followed a number of good defensive moves by the Dragons initiated by Beki Russell and Nikita Scollie producing good progression into the ICD half with direct running by the team allowed a driving push from Stacey Tualasea to run in try number two 0-10 the half time score. |
