Orkney u16's faced Caithness at Home on the Centre Pitch at Picky and won convincingly 97 points to 17. Orkney u14's faced Caithness at Home on the Centre Pitch at Picky and won 22 points to 5. That's approximately 160 Orkney players playing competitive Rugby (and that's not counting our Rookies in Dounby, St Andrews and Kirkwall) over the past two days. Huge thanks to all of the coaches, adult helpers, referees, caterers, committee members, players, sponsors, club members, club supporters and everyone else who contributes their own time to the Club.. Thanks to everyone that has contributed so much to this weekend and many more before this. Keep up the good work #orkneyrfc #50thanniversary #asone Last Sunday Caithness Under 14 and 16 teams travelled across to play Orkney, unfortunately the under 16 squad arrived with only eight players. With Orkney having 22 players available it was possible for a 15 a side game to take place. 7 of the boys very sportingly agreed to play the first half for the opposition and it was agreed that they would be swapped over at half time.
The game commenced with Caithness taking the lead in the first few minutes with a try for Caithness the conversion being missed. This lead was short lived with the more experienced Orkney team taking control and scoring tries at regular intervals. The Orkney players swapped over at half time but with the school using the game as O Grade Assessment the more experienced players had to carry on playing for Orkney. Half way through the second half with the game becoming to one sided with the agreement of the school assessor some of the more experienced players changed over. This allowed the remainder of the game to be more competitive. *** UPDATE *** - More photos from the night here The hall's looking good, ready for another superb night tomorrow night celebrating our fantastic clubs 50th anniversary! Seniors game this coming Saturday 19 November
Orkney RFC’s first team coach, Paul Livingstone, is keen to meet all senior players this coming Saturday and watch/coach a practice game to see and assess the spread of talent we have playing senior rugby, as ORFC prepares for the start of the second half of this season in two weeks time. Paul knows there are players who are playing internal rugby and others on the fringes of the first XV team who could help to deepen the ORFC squad strength as the club pushes for its highest ever position in National League 3 this season. Unfortunately due to travelling commitments with the Firsts Paul doesn’t get a chance to see all of the internal league players on a regular basis, so a game on Saturday with two teams mixed from First XV squad players and internal players would give him a good chance to assess the playing strength of the club and give all players the chance for a run out. Saturday’s game will kick off at 12 noon and be played on the Centre pitch at the Pickaquoy Arena and Paul looks forward to seeing a big turnout for what will be a great opportunity to have all of our players together for a game, and enjoy a pint together afterwards. On Saturday 12th November, the Orkney Rugby Club under 14 and 16 teams travelled to Huntly to play a Combined Huntly and Moray sides.
After a very uncomfortable passage on the Hrossey and a bus journey to Huntly the teams prepared for the two games in sunny conditions with the previous night’s strong wind having abated.
