With all teams kicking off at 10:30, Dounby quickly capitalised on their home turf advantage with wins at both age groups, while St Andrews and Kirkwall were hard pressed in a muddy tussle at Orkney RFC - seeing both teams come away with a win! Results for the first round can be seen below: Orkney were defeated 16-8 by table-toppers Dumfries Saints at Pickaquoy on Saturday afternoon.
It was a match played in 'four seasons in one day' conditions with torrential rain giving way to sunny skies. Dumfries showed why they are undefeated at the top of National League Division 3, and were a well-disciplined unit all round. They had the bulk of possession and territory in both halves and Orkney were perhaps fortunate not to lose by more, the visitors missing a couple of penalties and conversions. Orkney had their best spell late in the second half, when they scored their only try, but it was too little too late. Kirkwall Mini’s & Rookies Re: Weekend 24th & 25th

Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday, October 3 Orkney RFC 34, West of Scotland RFC 24 This wasn’t one for the faint-hearted. Orkney had to battle all the way against a fast and feisty West of Scotland side that made them work for every point they scored on the way to a 34-24 win at Pickaquoy on Saturday afternoon. The referee was also made to work for his money in this National League Division 3 clash, pulling in the captains and various players during the match to keep a lid on things. Discipline was ragged at times and one off-the-ball incident mid way through the second half saw Orkney’s William Thomson and West of Scotland's coach/sub sidelined for 10 minutes in a double yellow-carding. Mini Rugby Players this season will be battling it out for the Jack Rendall Memorial Cup in memory of one of ORFCs stalwart members. Each section will find themselves getting a slice of the youth and senior leagues by representing their section in both Home and Away fixtures at P4-P5 and P6-P7 age groups. The finale will see all sections playing at ORFC, followed by a Cup Presentation on April 10th, 2016 For more information, please see below: ![]()
