East battled it out with West on a sodden Picky outfield pitch on Saturday 28th October 2023.

It was another good even contest with East coming out on top after a very long debate on the score line that has taken 4 days to sort out!

Continuing a rather sporadic start to the Caley North League 1 season the Orkney Dragons travelled to Aberdeen to play Aberdeenshire Quines.

Despite the extreme amounts of rain the North East had been experiencing the pitch at Woodside was in remarkably good condition.

The Dragons had travelled with a depleted squad of 14 but three keen rugby players from Garioch, Mackie and Turriff respectively had kindly agreed to help the team out. Coral, Nikita and Sarah slotted into the team without issue.

On Saturday the 1st XV are off to Dumfries, while the Dragons are in Aberdeen to play the Quines.

At Picky outfield on Saturday at 3pm, East meets West in an Internal Rugby game before the Rugby World Cup final is shown live in the clubhouse

In weather conditions the first XV could only have dreamed of, the Jono Heal coached “Bunfighters” took on a Barrow-Muir team coached by Murray Simpson and Bruce Pinkerton.

There was another decent crowd in attendance for this latest internal match, highlighting the added interest in the local game that the Westray Bull has managed to generate over the past year.

The boys were off on their travels again this weekend, this time on the teatime boat from Stromness.

After a small hiccup in Caithness with no bus to collect us, Darren McGee worked his charm and within half an hour we had one with a fuel stop and a driver change at Latheron we were on our way to Elgin reaching there at 11.30pm.

Youth Rugby Match Report | U13 & 14s v Caithness/Shetland 7-10-23

Saturday the 7th of October saw Orkney RFC U13s & 14s travel to Thurso for games against mixed Caithness and Shetland sides.

Fourteen under 13 players travelled, requiring us to borrow a player from the Caithness/Shetland squad so we could play three 15 aside games.

Final score: Orkney U13s 38 Caithness/Shetland 5
