Youth Rugby Match Report | Ellon RFC v U18s 27-1-24

29/1/2024

ORFC U18s traveled down to Ellon RFC this weekend for their next game in the Caledonia Regional Cup.

Orkney’s player numbers were helped this weekend with 6 players from Caithness and 1 player from Shetland Rugby Clubs giving them a team of 17 players.

The game kicked off at 12pm at Meadows Way Ellon. Orkney found Ellon to be a well drilled and physical team, this making Orkney defend for a lot of the first half. Their forwards did make good drives up the pitch but Ellon was strong in defense.

Internal Rugby Match Report | Over 30s v Under 30s 27-1-24

27/1/2024

17 boys and Stewart Spence turned out in a miserable day in Dounby.
Game started off with the overs playing through the hands with some lovely well worked plays leading to them scoring the first try.

Quickly after play continues Simon Owen set off like a freight train and supply the pass for Keith Holland to crash through the over 30’s defence and scoring the try in his first game back since his travel’s.

Through out the game the overs showed their experience and punished the under 30’s lack of formation resulting in a try, shortly after the under 30’s replied back with a try of their own to even up the game.

The overs started to feel a flow for the game with some cracking carries and a lovely run from Stewart Esslemont getting the best of 2 players and scoring the try

Simon ‘the freight train’ Owen boulders through the over 30’s take the whole team for a little run be for planted down for the equaliser for the under 30’s then minutes later he does it again.

The Over 30s ran out winners on the day though, final score 25-20.

Thanks to Stewart Spence for reffing the game and for all the boys for making the effort!

Bruce Pinkerton Over 30’s

On Friday 12 January 2024, ORFC U18s traveled on Northlink Ferries to Aberdeen to play Mackie RFC in Stonehaven in the first game in Caledonia Regional Cup.

At the start of the game Orkney found it hard to put the travel behind them with some gaps in their defense allowing Mackie to put points on the board.
At the start of the second half Orkney knew the score was behind them. They did not let this affect them showing great strengths in attack and defense. This paid off for Orkney with them being awarded a try in the closing minutes of the game by Brogan Russell.

ORFC U18s would like to thank Northlink Ferries and Maynes Coaches for the travel and Mackie RFC for hosting them.
U18s Coaches would like to thank the players that traveled at the weekend and played and made it possible for the game to go ahead.
