Westray kicked off the game and held the Ba Bas in their own 22 for a long period with some strong forward play.
The babas had the first chance of points opting for a pen kick but it was missed.
After a tricky start, Orkney grew into the game and could easily have grabbed the try bonus point needed to secure runners up spot behind title winners, Preston Lodge. It wasn’t to be, but still a gutsy performance that sets things up nicely for a final game at home against Hamilton.
L.M.. The 2nd Hubert Haunschmidt Memorial Cup takes place at 12:30 on Sa30 March in Westray, followed by a Meal & Dance in the evening.
If you can’t make it out to Westray, head to Picky where the 1st XV welcome Allan Gle’s RFC for their rescheduled league match. The game will kick off at 2pm on the Centre Pitch. Deeside RFC, Moray RFC and Lochaber RFC made the trip north with great numbers of girls from P6 to u18s to join the Orkney girls in a day of mix game and development, the palm of the stronger squad going to Lochaber with 24 girls making the trip!
Caley made the stronger start with more possession and territory, with the pressure forcing Edinburgh into a defensive error, leading to Caley's first try 8 minutes in. 5-0 Caley. Edinburgh dug deep to eventually find a way through a solid Caley defence and even the scoreline 5-5 just before half time.
