BT National League Division 3 Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday, 30 September 2017 ORKNEY RFC 10, ST BOSWELLS 31 On Saturday Orkney hosted St Boswell’s on the Picky infield. Orkney started brightly aided by a raft of players returning from injury such as Andrew Linklater and Fergus McIvor as well as Alex Kansour and Steven Groat making their first appearances of the season. Playing with the wind at their backs, the home side managed to control possession and territory throughout the opening exchanges with Craig Rendall managing to dot down from close range with scrum half Danny Bain adding the extras. As the half went on St Boswells managed to grow into the game and almost managed to score a breakaway try only to be stopped by Orkney flanker Kevin Pepper managing to get back to make a covering tackles metres from the Orkney line in the process. The pressure finally told just before half time with St Boswell’s standoff slotting a penalty from in front of the posts after sustained pressure. Boswell’s started the second half well with the winds at their back and with their large pack causing Orkney no end of problems managed to get a converted try before Danny Bain replied with 3 points of his own to even the game at 10-10 with about 30 minutes to play. After this St Boswells managed to take control of the proceedings scoring three tries in the final half hour to make the final result 31-10 to the visitors. All in all a much improved performance from Orkney, who’s scrum more than held its own against their much larger opposition. Next week Orkney are away to table topping Glasgow Accies who have won 5 from 5 so far this season. The match kicks of at 13:30 at New Anniesland. G.P. Comments are closed.
