2014 Easter Break Activity Day Report

On Monday 31st March 2014 the Rugby club held the Easter Rugby Activity Day for all P1-7s. The morning session involved 33 P1-P3’s from 10am – 12noon meaning all players registered in at 9:45am at ORFC.

Thankfully weather was on our side so we were able to run the session outdoors on the back pitch of the rugby club. The session involved many different rugby based games, skills and exercises. The session involved games such as – animal walks, beans, stuck in the mud and stadium ball which gave the kids a chance to show there evasive running skills. These games were run by Bruce and Ryan.

In another group ran by Mark Sinclair, David and Mark involved much more physicality skills/exercises starting with an assault course which contained many different obstacles for the kids. After this they then moved on into some tackling exercises which all kids did exceptionally well in for a first time.

The final part of the morning saw the P1-3s play some Tag Rugby matches within their age groups. This saw many of the skills they had learnt that day into the games but all were willing to get involved by trying hard.

This was a great start to the rugby activity day and we were looking forward to see the older group in the afternoon session.

In the afternoon, the P4-7s were ready to go from 1pm – 3pm which meant players registered in at 12:45pm. We had less numbers due to other activities taking place but still had 12 keen participants ready to go. Being the older group, we had more advanced activities taking place such as tackling, kicking/catching, kicking tennis and also some 2v2 stadium ball.

Being the more experienced age group they were certainly up to the standard required, showing great concentration. They also showed good knowledge rules of Tag Rugby and this helped with activities throughout the session.

Once again it was a very successful session and everyone again impressed all of the coaches that were involved throughout the day.

A big thanks to everyone who helped out with the event – Mark Sinclair, Bruce, Ryan, David, Joe, Joyce and Mark but couldn’t have been done without all the kids involved with the day.
