There had been a lot of rain on the run up to the games but two dry pitches were marked out and the weather was relatively kind to the players and spectators alike.
The East team managed to score 6 tries but Kirkwall scored 11 and came away with the win. This was a really good effort from both sides considering that there have only been a couple of weeks of rugby since the Festive Break and it was interrupted with the recent poor weather.
Kirkwall Squad – Evan Finley, Finlay Flett, Izzy French, Kieran Gray, Cooper Harcus, Jacob Reed, Jamie Rorie, Einar Thomson, Ran Jackson Rouse, Balfour Williamson, Christopher Wishart and Matthew Meason.
East Squad – George Shearer, Catherine Baillie, Tom Simpson and Magnus Montgomery.
Referee – Al Watson
The Primary 6/7match was played in 3 x 8 minutes periods. The match saw both sides offering great attacking runs with close support affording lots of off loading and rucking opportunities. Both teams did tend to take the direct route into contact so this is an area that will be addressed at training so that the players run to space more.
The Kirkwall squad, whilst playing well were unable to put a score on the board so with the score being 10 nil to East at the end of the second period, the coaches brought both squads together and mixed up the players for a nine v nine last period. East ran out winners in the end but the final period was great to see and the coaches are looking forward to the primary 7 players coming together at the end of the season on the lead in to S1 rugby.
Kirkwall Squad – Cameron Boyd, Morven Brown, Iestyn Craig, Lee Dearness, Murray Flett, Tom Hamilton, Millar Harcus, Lewis Moncrieff, Hayley Pirie, Bruce Swanson, Finlay Waterston and Cailynn Williamson.
East Squad – Louis Hancock, Sammy Laughton, Thorfinn Scott, Taylor Gibson, Jamie Sutherland, Zander Baillie and Marcus Firth
Referee – Neil McCartney
