The U14s have had good numbers travelling for each event, and have been able to play together either as an Orkney team, or teaming up with players from Caithness and Ross Sutherland. They have shown great tackling and ball carrying skills. They are a speedy bunch, making the most of any gaps the defence leaves open, and not afraid of taking on bigger girls! At this age, they don’t play competitive rugby but have a few dates playing friendlies this spring. On Sunday 6th March, they took part in a development session that allowed them to work on both handling and tackling skills, then teamed up with Caithness to take on a team from Fife and a joined team from Lochaber/ Highlands. One win and one loss for Orkney/Caithness, with lots of good actions from the Orkney girls. The U16s and U18s have lower numbers that don’t allow them to make a full team. Those numbers are growing though and we have had a few recruits this year that are doing amazing at catching up with the more experienced girls. U16s and U18s have taken part in the Girls Series this Autumn and since Christmas they have played under Caithness colours for a few the national cup fixtures, and Moray colours in one national bowl fixture. Both age groups are playing the National cup semi-finals for Caithness at the weekend. If they win, they will be playing the national cup finals at Murrayfield in two weeks’ time. (though all under Caithness colours) We are also hoping to host a 7s tournament for the girls in Orkney in April, with an U14s team and hopefully an U16s team with a few borrowed players playing under Orkney colours too. The girls currently train on a Monday evening at the Riding Centre from 17:30-19:00. If you are interested please contact Tiphaine Cazenave for more information. Comments are closed.
