Granite City Colts U18s 27, Orkney/Caithness U18s 27
Last Saturday the Orkney Under 18 squad travelled down to Dundee meeting up with the Caithness contingent of the team, proceeding to St Andrews on Sunday to play Granite City in the Caledonian Shield Final.
With the opposition playing in a higher level Competition a tough game was expected, undeterred the side took the game to the opposition with winger Michael McGregor opening the scoring with a well taken try inside five minutes the conversion being missed.

With half time approaching the team showed some tremendous determination to get back into the game scoring two tries by Glen Brough and Jordan Miller with Jamie Mowat converting one of them making the score 22-15 to the opposition.
The second half started with Orkney/Caithness continuing to dominate scoring tries through Jordan Miller and Harry Siderfin giving a five point lead. As full time approached Granite City once again battled back scoring a unconverted try levelling the scores. The game ended in a bizarre fashion with Michael McGregor breaking through the defence, as he ran unopposed to the line the referee blew his whistle, after some confusion he blew for the final whistle. This left the scores level at 27 points, under the Competition Rules no extra time would be played with the trophy being shared.
The team’s thanks are due to Northlink for the continued sponsorship that they have enjoyed over the season this is essential for the amount of travel needed.
