Orkney RFC 29, Dunfermline RFC 5
Match Video by George Brown
For the first league game of rugby in Orkney for almost two years, the weather was fantastic and we had a large crowd.
Dunfermline arrived with a strong team and after 30 minutes play there was still no score.
Orkney made some excellent caries through the forwards, especially by Niall Campbell and Darren MacLean.
Chances were available but we over played, trying to offload when we should have just set up for another play. Orkney eventually broke through and captain Scott Rendall scored the first try, converted by Connor Hancock.
Half time: 7 nil.
After an inspiring half time team talk by Scott Rendall, Orkney controlled things much better and were rewarded with two more tries from Chris Guthrie and Niall Campbell, one converted by Connor, who also slotted over a penalty.
Dunfermline replied with a well worked move feeding the right winger who scored in the corner, the conversion was missed.
Orkney had the last say with vice captain Scott Russell scoring out wide, conversion missed. A fantastic result for Orkney against a very good team. Absolutely delighted with the performance from all the boys.
Final score 29-5 and another bonus point win.
