Granite City arrived with a squad of 13 S 2’s and with 15 Orkney players available a 14 a- side match was organised played over 4 periods of 15 minutes. Isaac Deerness, Kadyn Harcus, Ryan Linklater and Declan MacLeod all played a period for Granite City.
As it was Remembrance Sunday a minute’s silence was observed before the game started.
This was a closely contested match for quite a time.
The second period continued in the same vein but Granite City were attacking more and there needed to be some strong defence with Tommy, Euan, Isaac, Aiden and Christy making some good tackles. In the centre of the pack Alfie Copland and Thorfinn Sinclair made some ground with some hard yards. Angus worked hard on the wing when the ball came out and kept trying to steal the ball at the tackle with Scott Craigie working hard. A well worked move saw Tommy run in for a try before two tries from Granite City saw the score at half time being 12 – 10 to Orkney.
In the third period the game continued to be hard fought with all the players working hard both in attack and defence. Some well worked moves saw Brogan scoring twice with one converted by Aiden and Granite City getting one back. The score at the end of the third period was Orkney 24 Granite City 15.
The last period again contained some great play from both sides with only one try being scored. Tommy made an excellent run and avoided a few defenders. When stopped passed to Alex who made ground and passed to Euan who went close before popping the ball to Brogan to run in. Aiden converted to make it 31 – 17 to Orkney at the end of the match. A great game which tested the Orkney side. Thanks to Granite City for coming to Orkney and to all the usual helpers.
Coaches 1, 2, 3 were 1st Tommy, 2nd Aiden, 3rd Alex and Players Player was Brogan.
