Orkney RFC's very own Ryan Arcus was gleaming with joy last Tuesday evening (17th Nov) at the Orkney Youth Awards ceremony at the King Street Halls. Ryan received his SALTIRE award and SUMMIT award for his time and effort that he has put into his coaching at Orkney RFC since November 2012.
He has accrued well over 300 hours of voluntary rugby coaching which has seen him training several separate groups from Kirkwall Rookies, under 14's, Girls and woman's rugby to coaching at Stromness Academy. As his confidence and experience has grown, he has been able to branch out to assist with the running of holiday camps and tag festivals also.
ORFC Chairman Neil McCartney attended the award ceremony and had nothing but praise for Ryan for the time and effort that he has committed to his volunteering efforts. 'Without volunteers, Orkney RFC would be unable to fulfil its role in providing coaching to hundreds of keen rugby players. Ryan is only 17 years old but has already committed a huge amount of his own time in these area's.
The event was presented by Orkney’s own Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament, Jack Norquoy and Thorfinn Moffat and the awards were given out by Orkney MSP Liam MacArthur.
The Orkney RFC committee are delighted for Ryan - keep up the good work.
