Lucky Golden Token nets a £5000 bonanza for the Rugby Club!

The results on the pitch may not have gone the right way yesterday, but Orkney RFC was definitely a winner off the field with a £5000 bonanza after a Golden Token find at Tesco!

Linda Ross found the winning token as part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts, Golden Grants campaign where the winner gets to chose one community organisation from the three represented in-store to receive the money.

Linda decided to donated to the rugby club as her husband Bob, who suffers from MND, has received support from the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

With community rugby well established within schools around the county; more youth teams than before travelling south to play rugby each weekend and the successful introduction of our “Warm up Wednesday” after school programme, the funds will be well spent!

The club are extremely grateful to Linda & Tesco Kirkwall for the donation and to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation for providing the inspiration!

Season 2024-25 Memberships & Fixture Card

The Senior, Junior and Social membership forms have been updated for the new season and the new fixture card is now available to download in PDF format.

Please note the changes in membership fees (anyone paying by standing order is asked to make sure it is up to date):

Senior Playing Member (1st / 2nd / Ladies) - £100
Junior Player: 1st Child - £30, Additional Children - £15
Student Player (Over 18 & in full time education) - £30
Social member (non-playing) - £40

Players / parents are reminded that they must also update their SCRUMS registration in addition to completing a membership form as well as paying membership fees before players are eligible to play rugby.
Also, please ensure that any EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS in the SCRUMS system are up to date

Orkney youth players head off to Perth on Rugby Scholarship

The club would like to wish youth players Michael Scarth and Ronan Hamilton all the best as they start their season of rugby scholarship at Glenalmond College in Perth.

Michael and Ronan have played since Minis and Rookies at Dounby, continuing right up to U16 with Orkney RFC when they both were selected for Caledonia Player Development Hub (PDH) programmes.

They both were selected for the Caledonia squad representing the U16 level, with Michael also stepping up to U18 in one match and both lads then going on to represent Glasgow Warriors at U16 level.

Michael and Ronan were delighted to be offered a scholarship to continue their rugby journey.

Both are at U18 level now and look forward to their scholarship to progress their rugby and the academic year ahead

Everyone at Orkney Rugby Football Club will be following you on your next chapter and wish you both all the very best.

Exciting News: Warm Up Wednesday is Launching!

We're thrilled to announce the launch of ‘Warm Up Wednesday’, and we can't wait to welcome all our youth players to the club before training.

The rugby club will be open from 3:30pm and it's the perfect way to kick off the evening! Grab a snack and enjoy a game of pool, or a have quick chat with your coaches and fellow players. It's a great chance to bond, build team spirit, and get in the right mindset before training starts.

A quiet space will be available to support your studies. Whether you need a quiet space to finish up homework, want some help with a tricky subject, or just want to get ahead, this is your time to focus and get things done

We are looking forward to seeing you all there!

Six Nations 2025 AWAY Tickets Application

Club members are invited to apply for 2025 Guinness Six Nations AWAY game tickets v France & England.

You will need an online ticketing account with Scottish Rugby in order to apply.

Please note that the club's allocation is based on the number of tickets that members apply for - THERE ARE NO "SPARE TICKETS". So, "If you don't ask now, you won't get later!"

DEADLINE for entries is Sunday 22 September

New posts for the ‘Hup pitch

As the club continues to grow, some weekends there could be up to 7 different teams playing at home!

Thanks to the hard work of club members and sponsorship from local businesses, we are delighted that new rugby posts have now been installed at the St Margaret’s Hope School and we now have an additional pitch for our growing club!

The new posts have been made by Scottish Sea Farms and were delivered by The Garrett Brothers. Local businesses and club members/coaches were at hand yesterday to help with installing them ready for the first rugby game being played on them this weekend.

Level 1 Coaching Course 18-8-24

John Cairns will be taking a level 1 course for new or novice coaches at ORFC on Sunday the 18th of August, from 10am to 4pm

There is currently a desperate lack of coaches at certain age groups within the club and a real chance that some sections could fold because of it.

The club would like all coaches to complete this course ahead of the new season & will cover the costs for those involved.
