Great evening for ORFC at Orkney Sports Awards 2021

29/1/2022

As Chairman of your club I was honoured and pleased to be at the Orkney Sports Awards for 2021 held in the Kirkwall Arts Theatre last Friday night (28 January 2022). It was a very well organised and conducted event and the introduction material contained several references to ORFC members which was very pleasing.
Also I was a proud to be at an event where so many of our Club members, coaches and teams were nominated. All of them were worthy contenders and they are all much valued by ORFC.

Those ORFC teams and members nominated were:
  • Scott Rendall for Sportsperson of the year
  • Orkney RFC First XV and Orkney Dragons for Team of the Year
  • ORFC Under 14s and ORFC Under 16s for Young Team of the Year
  • Brian Lanni for Volunteer of the Year
  • Tiphaine Cazenave and John Cairns for Coach of the Year
(albeit John was in the running for his athletics Coaching on this occasion)

However sport, by its very nature, can be a cruel environment in which to operate because more often than not there can only be one team or person who will be the winner at the end of any contest.
On the park, or in the stadium, an individual or team can decide to change tactics, raise their game, do something unexpected, etc to make a difference to the score and outcome of their game before the final whistle blows, but individuals and teams cannot influence an awards decision in the same way because it is the judges who make the call and decide the final outcome.

Suffice to say that regardless of results, which you can read about elsewhere, I was proud of every one of our Orkney Rugby Club members listed at this awards ceremony as they, and their coaches, are all a credit to our Club. As indeed are every one of our club members and supporters - playing and non-playing – and our sponsors. They are all a credit to, and very much valued by, ORFC.

Ian Carse
Chair of ORFC

Stuck for a Christmas Present? - Grab a copy of the Anniversary Book!

13/12/2021

Picture
With Christmas approaching, now’s your chance to grab a copy the 50th Anniversary Book as a wee present.

There are only a few books left, so if you know someone who would like one as a Christmas, Birthday or Anniversary gift you can get one from The Orcadian Bookshop or from Ian Carse, who can arrange for it to be signed if you like.

Each book covers the full history of the club as well as all the match facts and statistics throughout its history, and there is an abundance of photos of all the Club’s teams from its inception until the end of last season.

A book only costs £25 and each purchase makes a good contribution to the Club’s funds.

If you would like to reserve a book call or text Ian Carse on 878339 or O7415 680706 and leave your contact details. You can also reserve a book by sending Ian an email.

Help your Club, Buy a Book, and give someone a wonderful present!!
