First Orkney 7s Girls Tournament a great success

On Saturday 23 April 2022, the first Orkney Girls 7s was a success with a day full of rugby for girls of all age groups.

Squads from Lochaber and Shetland travelled with strong numbers as well as girls from Caithness and Moray.

At U14s, three teams fought for the Orkney Girls trophy, presented by Box'd! Orkney.
Lochaber finished 3rd with 2 points, Shetland/Moray finished 2nd with 4 points, and Orkney/Caithness took the win with 6 points!

The Orkney/Caithness girls, lead by captain Cailynn Williamson, showed some great rugby on the pitch, finding gaps through the defence to score tries after tries, and showing great tenacity and smashing tackles when the opposition had possession.

On the second pitch, the U16s and U18s enjoyed a development session lead by the club RDO John Cairns.
From beginners to experienced players, all girls got stuck in and showed their skills, working on decision making in the game.

The day finished with the distribution of medals, kindly donated by Box'd! Orkney, for player's player and coaches' player for each team, and player of the tournament.

The girls session would like to thank everybody who came and help on the day, setting up the pitches, running the touch lines; first aiders- Brian Lanni, Jessica Payne, Lucy Flett, Jacob Heal, Nickie Milne, Jo Inkster; Ellie for feeding the girls after the games; all the coaches who helped this season and our amazing ref. Donna; the travelling teams for coming to us; all the supporters on the day and of course the two sponsors of the girls this season- Box'd! Orkney for the tournament trophy and medals and Orbital Marine Power who sponsored the girls playing shirts.
