Also I was a proud to be at an event where so many of our Club members, coaches and teams were nominated. All of them were worthy contenders and they are all much valued by ORFC.
Those ORFC teams and members nominated were:
- Scott Rendall for Sportsperson of the year
- Orkney RFC First XV and Orkney Dragons for Team of the Year
- ORFC Under 14s and ORFC Under 16s for Young Team of the Year
- Brian Lanni for Volunteer of the Year
- Tiphaine Cazenave and John Cairns for Coach of the Year
However sport, by its very nature, can be a cruel environment in which to operate because more often than not there can only be one team or person who will be the winner at the end of any contest.
On the park, or in the stadium, an individual or team can decide to change tactics, raise their game, do something unexpected, etc to make a difference to the score and outcome of their game before the final whistle blows, but individuals and teams cannot influence an awards decision in the same way because it is the judges who make the call and decide the final outcome.
Suffice to say that regardless of results, which you can read about elsewhere, I was proud of every one of our Orkney Rugby Club members listed at this awards ceremony as they, and their coaches, are all a credit to our Club. As indeed are every one of our club members and supporters - playing and non-playing – and our sponsors. They are all a credit to, and very much valued by, ORFC.
