Again we had a good competitive Internal game out in Dounby last Saturday with two determined sides playing good rugby. It was great to have a contingent from Westray joining players from both the East and West in mixed teams led by Steven(Chopper) Wylie captaining the one team and Derek Robb captaining the other side. While a score of 42-12 may suggest a one sided match it was far from that and the scores were hard come by. Try scorers for the winning team were 2 for both Graham and Steven with Steven Grieve, Tubber, Jiffy and Hamish all contributing one a piece. Ian Donaldson got 1 for the opposition as did captain Derek Robb. After the game we all repaired back to The Merkister Hotel who very kindly put on soup and sandwiches for the players and we all watched the Scotland victory over Italy on the telly. Many thanks to The Merkister for sponsoring this game."
On a personal note I would like to thanks everyone who helped to advertise this game and get players out on the day and to the players themselves as it is so important to the club that we have internal games to give people of all abilities and levels if fitness the chance to play rugby. Thanks too to the spectators who came along and gave us encouragement and/or cheek Paul Livingstone would encourage all of you to go along to training on Tuesday and/or Thursday nights as he is keen to see Internal rugby develop for all sorts of reasons. Thanks also to Ian Rushbrook for refereeing as we all know he is a busy man and that day he had the weins to feed as well! During the half time of the Scotland v Italy match there was chat about organising two second fifteen fixtures on 1 and 15 April. It was agreed that I would contact Caithness to try and get a fixture against them and/or a combined Caithness/Ross Sutherland team on the other side of the Pentland Firth for 1 April The second game will be a home fixture against Perthshire when they come up on 15 April. It was Perthshire who suggested this fixture and we will try and get confirmation from them ASAP. Please help us to keep Internal rugby going by continuing to turn up for games and spreading the word amongst friends and family to get more folk out when games are scheduled I hope we can have a discussion about internal rugby and its important place in ORFC once this current season is over and I am always interested in hearing from anyone who has views on how we keep it going, develop internal rugby and keep it enjoyable. I hope I can organise the two second fifteen games on 1 & 15 April so watch this space for more details Ian Carse Comments are closed.
