Papdale Primary had been receiving Tag rugby over the few weeks before Christmas provided by Bruce Ruthven & Mark Sinclair. This was a 4 week block given to the P4 & P5 classes. This block started on Thursday 21st November and the last session was on Thursday 12th December. Each session was 45 minutes giving all 4 classes a chance to raise their Tag Rugby standard. Each class had around 20 – 25 pupils making good numbers for us to teach. Our aim was to build up a range of skills within the game for the mini festival which was taking place on the last week. We worked on many drills/exercises which were fun and competitive for all participants to be involved with. This included passing and hand catch, a range of ball skills, evasive running skills such as sidestep, dodge and swerve, teamwork and also communication. It was a lot to fit in over the first 3 weeks but the hard work and effort by all kids was excellent. This made it clear to us that large improvements were being made each week in all these areas.
On the last week it was the festival itself where we joined both P4 classes together giving us around 40 – 45 pupils. This was from 11:20am – 12:05pm. We also did the same with the P5 classes giving us similar numbers. This was from 12:05pm – 12:50pm. The festival took place on the 3G pitch and involved 11 a side, 8 minute games on 2 separate pitches. It was clear that both groups had achieved huge improvements but the P5s showed there extra bit of experience to raise the bar from the P4s but we are confident next year the P4s will be similar standard. Mark Sinclair quoted “A very good and enjoyable 4 weeks to be part of, it’s great to see all kids coming in each week with smiles on their faces ready to go!” Report by SRU + ORFC MA Mark Sinclair Comments are closed.
