Game played on Saturday 8 April 2017
Orkney won a close encounter 39-29 against a very good Caithness second XV on 8 April 2017 in Thurso
This was a good hard game played in a the first class spirit of rugby
In the end Orkney won by 7 tries to 5 and the try scorers for Orkney were Kevin Budge, Alistair Morgan, Sweyn Leonard with two tries each for Steven Wylie and Robbie Morris.
Alistair Morgan was deservedly voted Man of the Match for his try and all round play but in addition to the scorers all of the Orkney players, under the captaincy of Derek Nicolson, put in a good shift and there was lots of good skill and determination on show.
Caithness were difficult and determined opponents but this Orkney squad gelled well together both while playing and socially, and they came home as worthy winners who showed great camaraderie both on and off the park and were a credit to ORFC
Next Saturday 15 April the home fans will get a chance to see Orkney’s second XV on show when they play Perthshire second XV in the first game of a double header between Orkney and Perthshire at the Pickaquoy arena. Kick off times will be announced later this week through the usual channels and publications, including the ORFC website.
