Falkirk U16 v Orkney U16 (46-19)


The Orkney lads were off on their travels again, the semi-final in the Caledonia Plate. A boat trip down to Aberdeen overnight, with an early start on the road at 7.15am with a bus trip to Falkirk. A quick warm up and stretch of the legs, however this boat and bus journeys take their toll on the lads.

This showed with Falkirk scoring 4 tries with one being converted in quick succession of one another.

Orkney were playing some good flowing rugby and very good scrums. Michael Scarth with a quick tap penalty led to a try and a conversion from Ronan Hamilton.

Falkirk were on the attack and Orkney stole the ball, there were good hands, recycling and good team play which led to a pass out to Ashton Bruce on the wing who went over the line and Ronan Hamilton converted making the half time score 22-14.

Orkney started strong in the second half up in Falkirk’s 22, an infringement gave a scrum to Falkirk passed out and cleared their lines. Orkney seemed to be giving away a few penalties, with Falkirk in Orkney’s 22 a quick tap, recycled at the ruck and they were over the line.

Falkirk got another converted try, then Orkney had a scrum on the 10-metre line, Orkney showed good hand again out to Ashton Bruce on the wing who ran up and score in the right-hand corner.

Falkirk had another 2 tries one which was converted to make full time score 46-19.

Orkney played well and fought to the end, with some good strong scrums, and tackling on the day. The game changers played their part coming on and fighting hard too.

The lads didn’t play to their full potential after the travelling, and they were up against a strong, well drilled Falkirk side who came out on top on the day.
