Michael and Ronan both started for Glasgow Warriors Whites in their first game v Newcastle Falcons 2, Michael at Loosehead and Ronan at 10. A strong start from Glasgow saw them get over for an early try, but a well-drilled and physical Newcastle side soon took control of the game, finding plenty of gaps in the Glasgow defence and running in six tries over the course of the game. The scoreline was harsh, with some good passages of play from Glasgow, with Michael a powerful influence in the scrum, and Ronan doing well with distribution in attack.
Both sat out the second game v Newcastle 1 which again ended in defeat for Warriors. Michael started the third game again at Loosehead, with Ronan coming off the bench midway, again at outhalf. Warriors competed well in this game, getting over for three hard-earned tries, but a dominant performance for Edinburgh saw them get over for six. Michael had some strong carries in attack, while Ronan had a tough outing as Glasgow's defence struggled to contain wave after wave of Edinburgh attack. All in all a huge learning experience for the boys and a real eye opener on the standard of rugby at this level. Coaches comments after the games noted that the Glasgow / Caley combo at this age group often struggles due to the squad having far less training time together due to the travel distances involved for players vs Edinburgh / Borders and Newcastle. Next step for the boys in their progression will be attending 3-day camps during the summer and looking at rugby scholarship opportunities which would give them the chance to settle in with the squad and regularly attend Warriors development sessions. Huge thanks again from the boys to ORFC and especially Tattie for the amazing support in getting them through to this stage. M.H. Comments are closed.
