BT National League Division 3
Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday 4th November
Orkney RFC 68, Haddington RFC 16
A good day for Orkney RFC, who came out on top after a scrappy affair.
Both sides were obviously tense which was understandable due to the position both side were in the League. Haddington came out the blocks at 100 mph which took Orkney by surprise, Orkney's defence held strong but they gave away a penalty which put Haddington 3 zip up.
Orkney then found a little impetus and took a 3 pointer after some sustained pressure in the oppositions half, converted by Danny Bain.
Haddington scored another 3 pointer after an intense bit of pressure but again Orkney held strong.
Orkney then started to play their patterns which slowly got them back into the driving seat.
The 2nd half was 70% Orkney's and 30% Haddington with 3 well worked tries by Orkney scored by Scott Rendall and 2 from Alex Kansour all converted by Danny Bain,
Also Danny slotted a couple of more 3 pointers which helped to keep the home side's scoreboard ticking over in the right direction.
Orkney were deserved winners but they need to keep playing for 80 minutes and not take the foot off the pedal which they done again today and allowed Haddington to score a 5 pointer & conversion.
But I cannot lie a really good day for Orkney to get the season back on track, with lots positives but also lots to work on.
If we get the commitment at training Orkney are well set up to finish the first half of the season but this is going to take 110% commitment from all players in Orkney RFC.
A huge thank you to all the players involved in the hard fought encounter against one of the more stubborn sides in National 3.
A huge week ahead in preparation for the away trip to Newton Stewart, it's going to be a 2 day trip with a flight home on the Sun.
Training on Tues is at KGS 7:30 start, and on Thurs KGS 6:00 start, so I look forward to seeing a big turnout from all players.
Kick-off in Newton Stewart next Saturday is 5pm under floodlights.
