Pickaquoy Infield - Saturday 14th October
Orkney RFC 68, Dalziel RFC 5
Orkney RFC were needing to turn their season around and build over the next 4 weeks to get at least 16 points or more to push them up the table of National 3.
The tension was on all the faces of the squad even though they tried to hide it, it was there because we knew we had to put a performance together no matter how good or indifferent it could be to ensure 4 as a minimum and then build from there to get a BP to make it a 5 pt game.
Orkney as always started strong and put Dalziel under huge pressure for the first 15 minutes, as per normal for the season, Orkney were embedded on Dalziel 22 without putting points on the board, but eventually the resilient Dalziel’s line was broken by Robbie Firth then converted by Danny Bain. Once the defensive line had been broken Orkney remembered where the try line was and started to build on their early pressure.

We must thank Dalziel for not giving up because they fought to the bitter end and were rewarded a last minute try which was not converted, this did not impress the Orkney side as they wanted a clean sheet.
Saturday’s result was well overdue but badly needed, now the squad need to work hard this week for the away fixture to Perth which is also a Cup match played over 2 legs, Orkney are the holders and need to retain the Cup. The training this week needs to be an intense one for focus, concentration and listening as well as transmitting as we have lots of good stuff to work on after this weekends fixture.
Training Tues night is at the Club on grass, more on phase play, areas of the pitch play and less on contact so a big attendance is required. Tues at Club 6 pm start so please be early, Thurs at KGS again 6 pm start.
