I started as a youngster, when I was just a boy
In the mud at weekends, on the fields of Pickaquoy
We learned how to tackle and we learned how to fall
We learned how to sidestep and pass the oval ball
It’s there we did our training, it’s there that we got fit
It’s there that when selected, you pulled on the first team kit
It’s there that we rubbed shoulders with the heroes of our youth
It’s there you learnt life’s lessons, and were told the simple truth
That you would run and score a try for
You would ruck and maul and die for
For as players, we all know
This is more than a game
More than a game, it’s the club you play for
More than a game that friendship’s made for
More than a game, ….oh yeah
It’s more than a game
It’s there we learnt commitment, how to give and gain respect
Discipline and teamwork, the support you could expect
It’s there we learnt that win or loose only sportsmanship’s allowed
It’s there we learnt the values of which rugby can be proud
It’s there we learnt to have a laugh, and dance away the night
Commiserate and celebrate, and go out on the skite
It’s there we lost our innocence beneath a setting sun
Some got a life, some found a wife, and boy we had some fun
And you would run and score a try for
You would ruck and maul and die for
For as players we all know
This is more than a game
More than a game, it’s the club you play for
More than a game, that friendship’s made for
More than a game, ….oh yeah
It’s more than a game

Fifty years have passed now and the club has come of age
Old boys, getting older, no longer centre stage
Standing on the touchline, telling tales of days gone by
The day that we beat Caithness, and they scored the winning try
Look into the future, do you see a peedie boy
In the mud at weekends, on the fields of Pickaquoy
He’ll learn how to tackle and he’ll learn how to fall
And he’ll carry all our hopes and dreams when he picks up the ball
And he’ll run and score a try for
And he’ll ruck and maul and die for
For as players we all know
This is more than a game
More than a game, it’s the club you play for
More than a game, that friendship’s made for
More than a game, ….oh yeah
It’s more than a game
Hawgood then, fields the ball deep in his own
twenty two, passes out to Logie, he’s got
Spence and Learmonth in support, McGinn takes
it on, out to Wood, nice inside pass to Hutch,
he’s got Bain on his shoulder, Keith Hutchison
this time steps inside and offloads to Copland,
he’s supported by by Anderton and Girvan. The
ball pops out to Rodney Spence he chips
through and it’s a kind bounce for Anderson,
Sangster’s up there with him as is Cusiter and
McGill. They form a maul now as Findlater and
Rushbrook drive on with Flett and Stoff piling in
up the touchline. Now the balls out with Hall,
along the line to Watson, McLellan, Dearness, and out to Burns
Down in the tackle but Drever and McCartney
drive over and its Thomson out to Baird
who’s got a bit of room, McKinlay bursts into the line,
where did he come from! And it’s out to Alan
Brown who scores in the corner. It’s been a
wonderful 50 years and this has been more than
a game for Orkney Rugby Club.
More than a game, it’s the club you play for
More than a game, that friendship’s made for
More than a game, ….oh yeah
It’s more than a game
What do I Hear………………..It’s the Orkney Rugby Club
Fiftieth Year …………………… At the Orkney Rugby Club
