Match Report - Gordonstoun Away - 15th September 2012 Orkney u18s travelled down to play Gordonstoun on what looked to be a good day for rugby. Gordonstoun kicked off the game, well received by the Orkney forwards who drove forwards, after gaining good ground the ball was moved to the backs. Good running from the backs got Orkney to within 5 meters of the try line. The Gourdonstoun defence was rushed and gave away a penalty, this was taken quickly by Aiden Drever who dodged two defenders to score, which he then converted (7-0). The Orkney forwards were staking there mark for the possession of the by rucking and counter rucking for the ball. Some good steals by Robert Firth, Scott Russell and Euan Dunnett saw Orkney win the ball, producing great ball for the backs to get running into space and making breaks up the pitch lead by Darren Mclean which resulted in him scoring.
The conversion was successful (14-0). Some good offloads by the back row players and Jack Siderfin put Duncan Grey into space who made a great run up the pitch but was tackled just short of the line. Orkney were leading into half time 14-0. In the second half Orkney seemed to drop off a bit which allowed Gordonstoun to score two tries close together, one which was converted. Orkney were still in the lead however good driving by the Gourdonstoun forwards put them close to the try line resulting in another try. Orkney fought right to the end but could not capitalize on the pressure they were putting upon Gourdonstoun. Man of the match went to Darren Mclean for his strong running throughout the game creating many attacking opportunities for Orkney.
