With a slight change to schedule this year, ORFCs youth rugby teams; along with Shetland found their way onto the Orkney 7s circuit. At 9:00am, May 2nd – players from throughout Orkneys U14s, U16s and Girls teams took to the field in a mini festival of 7s on ORFCs back pitch. Shortly joined by Shetland, the youth teams played a rotation of 7s games with players from all age groups in a mixed bag of fixtures. Shetland players soon became accustomed to Orkney hospitality, with a food tent to rival the County Fair provided by our ever supporting parents! Conditions were looking positive for the day, which would give the players a chance to show their skills to the bunch of spectators who supported the event. The morning started promptly with a combined Shetland/Orkney icebreaker for the Girls in their joint warm-up followed straight-away by their opening match. With spirits high, the boys then took to the field with their version of the opener. Festivities continued throughout the morning with each team rotating through mixed age group 7s matches. Shetland and Orkney players quickly laid down any rivalry with their counterparts, camaraderie and rugby spirit being the nature of the day. The aim of the morning was to ensure that everyone involved got plenty of time on the pitch, experiencing the enjoyment of playing 7 a side Rugby. With Orkney youth teams beginning their 7s training earlier in April, the standard of rugby on show was very impressive from both our boys and girls teams. With the morning coming to a close, it was clear to see that all involved had enjoyed a successful introduction to the 7s game; with everyone involved showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship on and off the field. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A big thank you to all of our parents who provided refreshments on the day, all the players for making it an enjoyable experience for everyone and also to all Coaches for your continuous hard work throughout the season. Your coaching has clearly benefited the players in a number of areas. Well done to all! Tom & Mark Comments are closed.
